Upgrading speakers in 79 series ute

Hey boys, I’ve got a 79 series single cab ute (HZJ79R), looking to upgrade the speakers because the stock standard ones are shocking. Wondering if any of you boys have done this and if you have any recommendations on what to get at a reasonable price and if it was a massive stuff around. I would want them on my door trim preferably ( at the moment they are located next to the steering wheel and glove box on passenger seat). Would I have to get a new head unit or could I jump straight out the back of that with the new speakers? All help is appreciated cheers lads. (Will add some photos for reference)

Get some door pods and 6.5 inch speakers. Be worth your while replacing the head unit while your at it for a better result. You can get a reasonable head unit fir not much coin if you are happy not to get Apple CarPlay etc.
You can buy Landcruiser dedicated setups at SSV online
Ah yeah gotcha, this is my current head unit at the moment too, dunno if it’s a decent brand or anything but does the job, worth upgrading that still ya reckon or not? Not too keen on Apple car play at the moment bit exxy

That head unit would still be better than stock, upgrade your speakers like Phs has done and try it to see if you are happy with the sound. A little amp will help sound quality as well if you can get one

Probably pertinent to add: if you're going along the door pod option (which is perhaps the best choice) don't forget to put sound deadening material in the doors. There's quite a few how-to Youtube installation videos on what to consider.
