They are claiming 200mm wider than a 200 and their 37" tyres will do less damage to the dunes. They didn't mention their weight difference I note.

ASPW was bragging on Youtube not long ago that he got permission to do it from some of the TO's with the proviso he stay out of the communities. He'll just be one of many now. Apparently he's doing it in his super early model Range Rover Classic. That would be older than @discomatt's Disco.

He spent a lot of time and money on that RR to make it reliable enough to go on the trip. One of the most self-indulgent and boring set of videos on Youtube.

And there was one clip where he filmed the group debating if they should ignore the rules, and go or not. Nearly everyone was South African or English and had no sensitivity for the rules or locals. Nothing against South Africans but that group clearly had no affinity.

none, the old bus doesn't have anything more than a sight sweat here and there, certainly nothing even close to needing a top up between services but I do like the way you think

Nothing wrong with it, it’s a great car that I love to drive and has been reliable to date but that doesn’t remove the concerns of taking a 10 year old high tech car into such a remote area. As I have always stated I do accept the reality of LR ownership

If you know your car, you should be ok. When I did it 2018 my lux was 12 years old and had 330,000kms on it. We travelled with a similar age D3 which has no problems.

Its a long trek but it isn't technical if you're familiar with sand dunes and stick to the main track. I did destroy a set of shocks but thats another story. The key is go light enough and easy enough that you don't risk breaking anything.

Also stay away from the fbook and forums as most posts are wildly out of touch with whats happening on the ground.

Only problem is the enthusiasts with trailers destroying the dunes and tracks just like the other great places around Aus.

Never look at crapbook for anything, yep it would more than likely be fine but I would want to replace all airbags and shockers, the plastic intake manifolds and rebuild the compressor, thats about 7k on a car that I will move on in a year or 2....

I think these guys were going there because they heard that the Canning Stock Root was an actual event !

Yep. I put a post up last year to gauge interest on a CSR trip. 28 June is the start date, leaving from Wiluna. I will post a rough trip schedule in the next two weeks.

@Lost1? unless your before or after CSR travel plans dictate your direction of travel on the CSR, I humbly suggest north to south on the CSR is the better option.

Why is that CTL? I am heading into the Kimberly after completing the CSR. But happy to take advice.

Going north the sun is always in your eyes. I know it is a personal choice and not a big deal to many, but I enjoyed our north south trip better than the time we went north.
