i was wondering if it is possible to fit a dual stage boost controler to my 92 hilux
the reason being when im on the highway for a long distance the poor thing sits on 10 psi the whole time but it really sucks the juice at the same time but im not sure how this would effect things i just wanna cut some boost off while on the highway as its not needed but around town i need it does anyone know anything about this stuff ?

cheers Ben

Is it petrol or diesel? to the best of my knowledge, if its diesel the boost will be determined by how much fuel is injected into the engine. if you drop the boost pressure, the fuel will have to be wound back because the mix in the combustion chamber will become too rich, if the fuel mix is too rich it will create too much black smoke. too much black smoke is higher exhaust gas temperature would could end in disaster. your best bet is to talk to a diesel fuel injection specialist.

Bainsy to the best of my knowledge you are spot on.

Also 10psi is about right/common for a turbo diesel at 100kmh.

I would recommend getting an exhaust gas temp gauge (pyrometer) and that will tell you for sure if there is too much fuel going in.

Bainsy is right that reducing the boost at that speed would cause a lot of problems due to excess fuel.

I would also sugges that you need to make sure your injection timing is correct as injection timing will have a very large impact on fuel usage.

thats exactly what i was thinking it doesnt use too much fuel i still average just under 500k on a trip but around town it seems better probably because its not always on boost ill just leave it as it is for now untill i blow it up and stick something else in her :D

thanks for the answers fellas
