Had a long weekend so my wife and I loaded up the pradi and took off down to Pigeon House Mtn from Sydney. We left the Princes Highway at Milton, north of Ulladulla and before long we were on the dirt out of the farm land and into the tall forest.
Came to the Pigeon House Mt car park, peaple walk from here to climb the Mt. We had some lunch here then drove on to finde Blue Gum Flat camp ground,so far the tracks are eazy.On the side track down to there we came across two Dingo pups about 8 to 10 weeks old, they took of down the track but we got a real good look at em becouse they stuck to it not heading into the bush till I got a bit too close for comfort. They were great to see! The camp site is a tall timberd clearing by a dry creek with one pit toilet, there is a good stetch of water not to far along the creek bed.
On to Yadboro Flat camp ground. Driving down onto an old rately wooden bridge, across a well runing lucky stone beded creek, "witch is the uper Clyde river" through to a quite good size grasy clearing on each side of the track. Shaded by tall gums and wattle, one pit toilet and a few fire places streched along the creek. We pulled in for a look, it was great so after a chat with some other campers we found a great spot by the creek and set up camp. For a saterday, fine weather, there were only 4 lots of us camping and plenty of spaces left.
From here is a great place to go and look for more chalenging tracks to explor. Most of the main tracks are well graded, but there is lots of side tracks off those. You will need maps. The "south coast forest map" is OK.
Cattlemans Trail" is a good one for some low range 2nd & 3rd gear stuff, and good ground clearance will save damage.Droping down into vally's,then climbing up onto Mogood Lookout, one of the best mountain lookouts that I'v ever seen,360 deg vews from the sea to the mountains. Then back down to the Clyde River.
It was eazy to spend three days in these State forests, camping is free out side of N.Ps, and there are more tracks to discover.
Yadboro Flat gets the thumbs up from us.
