Would you buy an LC76? And what colour?

OK, this is serious…as is everything.

A contractor colleague at work may not be able to buy his LC76 GXL that he has on order (graphite colour, manual, V8). He has been waiting over 12mths and not in a rush. He asked if I was interested in taking over that order at that original RRP price if he does not proceed. I am keen :)

He doesn’t want to risk buying and flipping as he went through a lot of stress selling his 2022 LC300 recently (took him a few months). He only made marginal profit after all that stress…not worth it for him.

I am keen as the V8 will hold its value and will be in demand. I may even flip it as I do not really need it. My LC78 sandy taupe is a keeper.

I am not a fan of the darker colours (graphite, merlot, midnight blue) as they show every swirl/paint mark, and not keen on vanilla as that looks like a mine vehicle. Darker colours look great when new only.

That leaves for another sandy taupe or pay a little extra for the silver. I don’t mind the silver as that hides swirls/paint marks and it would be the easiest colour to flip.

1) Would you buy it then flip it? Or hold onto it and keep it as a spare? Seems like a hassle to keep it as a spare (takes up garage space and locked up capital). Could even flip it before taking possession to keep the costs down for the future buyer. I’d split the profit with the colleague.

2) Do you like the silver?

Charcoal and dark colours look very tired after a trip or two in tight tracks.

Silver is okay, but I believe the 70 taupe or white is a thicker stronger enamel.

I love the charcoal colour, but I'd avoid a dark 4WD for actual 4wding.

Oh, at this point, I think there will be some tears in used car pricing, with new car lead times dropping. ( mind you, I have thought that for at least 9 months. LOL )

You probably don’t have an option to change the colour if it is an order? The charcoal is one of my favourite colours but wouldn’t get it for what I do but would be fine for you I would think as you are a lot more precious with your vehicle
Unless you are going to use it or flip it straight away is it worth buying? You will have anual rego and insurance costs eating at your potential profit
Also I don’t follow the prices but are the 76’s pulling the dollars like the utes that cashed up tradies are after?

I personally am not a big fan of a 76, if you are wanting a wagon I think there are better options

I may just have to resort to helping my colleague sell his before it arrives, with a healthy commission, if he doesn’t end up buying it.

How many cup holders has it got? :D

There's an old Chinese proverb.

One cup holder that makes it home is more useful than a Thousand cupholders on the side of road.

I don’t need 2x vehicles. Crazy thought. I barely drive the one I have.
If it wasn’t for the Fraser Island trip, and ski trips, I’d be lucky to do 9K km per year.
