That is a problem with the law, not the individual defending the accused.

The law isn't blind. It leans heavily in favour of those with the coin for good legal representation.

It also leans towards the other end as well as they don’t impose fines on them they will never be in a position to pay and they also dont want to clog up the jails so they get off lightly
It is the mainstream general public that cop it in the system

Actually this article says..."Former Jetstar pilot Gregory Lynn could claim self-defence when his matter returns to court in the coming weeks. "
How does one explain disposing of bodies, hopefully never to be found and claim self defence.
Rather than go to the cops and tell your story of self defence.
Typical media sensationalism.
No way , the media wouldn’t do that would they

He's got a good lawyer thats for sure. The uncertainties around the deaths are going to be make it difficult to get murder conviction.
Good Lawyers / Barristers get bad people off a lot of crimes that everyday people like us can't afford

I am tipping that he may wriggle out of one with a firearm misfire as Voluntary Manslaughter but maybe not for the other person, but then to deliberately try to dispose of the bodies would be seen as a reckless indifference to human life

Murder

In a case of murder (except for when the murder is constructive murder), the prosecution must prove that the accused had full intention to kill, an intention to inflict grievous (and serious) bodily harm, or a reckless indifference to human life. The accused must have foreseen that his or her actions, or failure to act, amounted to the death of the victim.

Voluntary Manslaughter

An intentional killing that is accompanied by mitigating factors describes voluntary manslaughter. The mitigating factors are generally lack of premeditation and provocation, which causes anger or rage; however, there are other factors that may apply. An example of this would be a person who is provoked in an argument, to the extent that they become enraged and immediately lash out at the victim, killing them in the heat of the moment.

Involuntary Manslaughter

Involuntary manslaughter refers to an unlawful killing without intent – usually, where death is caused by negligence or recklessness, by committing an unlawful and dangerous act. An example of this would be a passenger in a car who is killed due to the driver’s reckless driving behaviour.

Victorian Criminal Legal

I for one, would hope that true Justice prevails and that Homicide Squad have absolutely dotted their I's and crossed their T's and ensured any & all evidence has been obtained with total legality.

cheers

A reminder, the pilot has "allegedly" got away with one murder already, is he hoping for two more?
He may think he is a bit smarter than the average bear err wombat!

Fair bit of info here about witnesses.
Mr Hill may have been having a bad day and got someone offside??
Looks can deceive. My sister in law has a withering look when she drives, it is just her concentrating. Having said that if I drove hours out into the scrub just to pants a Sheila I shouldn't, and there were random people all around I'd think I'd appear curt too....
If they are taking bets, I'll have an each way on old mate getting the shits with the drone and taking it out with a shotgun (good on him), and then the pilot coming down and starting something.

Yeah, looks like all the wrong circumstances lined up for that outcome: a remote area lacking 'safety in numbers', old dudes having a bad day, and a bloke with perhaps not-so-obvious sociopath/psychopath tendencies.

Just a thought!
They talk of blood splatter, or lack of it, if the couple were shot in their tent, could that explain why the tent was burnt down????

Clearly the Police had a lot of evidence at the time including witnesses that they didn't let on to until today.

Its going to be fascinating to hear all of the evidence and how they present it.

I'm pretty sure he was grumpy due to him driving a 79 and not a Land Rover. Poor choice IMO.. I'd be grumpy too.

Wonder why on earth the accused took the phone over the hill through a known camera trap. The police must have known full well they had him when they joined the dots.

He was trying to overtake at 130kmph on Herne Spur Track, and it felt unstable.

If he was on Vodafone, he'd still be a free man. The police could never track him more than 5km from the CBD

I'll bet the families involved are as surprised about a 15 year affair as they were about the murders. Interesting how the truth eventually comes through.

That is my bad Corndoggy. I started the thread when it looked like an accidental incident. Maybe the mods could move it now that its clearly a murder case.
