I had the same issue with the same winch. On the 3rd rotation I managed to get 8mm of clearance that was enough to get it to lift and turn and engage, but the wife was never going to manage it. It was a fingertips only motion

Actually you can stand a fair chance of melting you winch cable powering out against the brake if that’s the way that winch is set up.

Spoke to the Pismo builder and the yank winches that fit are Warn 12K EVO S,Smitty Bilt 12 K and Superwinch 12 K , You blokes reckon the Runva EWV 12000 would fit ...??? same sorta specs as the warn ? Like the sound of the clutch set up with a sliding gear, presume it means ya just twist the lever left or right instead of lift and twist like the Ultra ... which is for sale BTW ...

So blokes that know , if I installed the winch with an unreachable clutch , can ya use the in out on the remote to pull the rope out ... ??? Hold the out button in and just have a pull ?

It's a slow process, requiring many amps from the battery also.
I usually use the 30 sec on and 30sec off rule anyway...(use as a rough guide)

If you're not in a hurry... SURE.

A very long post that's been coming for years, so appologies if this has been answered somewhere along the line...

I'm looking at the Carbon Tank 12 or 15 ($100 difference on same chassis) as I've litterally not found a bad word about them. I'm looking to fit the new Offroad Animal Toro bulbar to my new Defender when it becoms available at the end of June 2024 and I'm steering clear of Warn, which has been my go-to for many years (allowing for the usual 12 monthly service). The Carbon Tank ticks all the boxes and being Australian, I would like to support them in any regard.

A dangerous question, but any feedback and opinion on the Carbon Tank specifically...? They claim IP69K dust and water ingress standards on the gearbox housing and IP68 on the rest of the systems.

PS: Those with opinions on the new Defender... it will be 3 years old in July, and like the vast majority of them, its has been absolutely flawless to date. ;)

After doing a lot of research I have ordered two of these in 20,000lb size for my new truck. Apart from all the positive feedback and specifications I really like the fact you can pick up the phone and talk to someone that knows what they are talking about at their Qld premises

Cheers for the feedback!

Those are the same reasons I'm looking at them as an alternative to the "mainstream suppliers. I was initially looking at a Redwinch, but while its quite possibly one of the best winches available on the market, I cannot believe that its 200% better than something like the Carbon (its 3 times the price).

The 15K model certainly meet the requirements at more than double the Defender 90's 2,970kg (6,550lbs) GVM, so I'm just waiting for confirmation from Offroad Animal that the cradle dimensions will suit the winch before I order.

I don’t know if all the models in the tank range are the same but Carbon told me they developed the 20,000 lb model for an army tender submission for the Bushmaster Vehicles and the ones they sell to the public are identical apart from a special exterior coating the military requires
That gives me a lot of confidence in their product
