Hi All, just purchased a Pajero Sport and now looking to start kitting it out. I've currently got a Runva EWX 9500 on the Challenger which I'm thinking of keeping. Does anyone have any experience with fitting a Runva winch to an ARB bar? (do they fit etc) I can't believe what ARB are asking for winches and the Runva, while not been used much has performed well every time it has.

I’ve got a Runva 11 xp fitted to an ARB commercial bar on a PX Ranger. I got the shop to fit it.
Reaching the lever to stick the winch in freespool could have a bit more room to move but it’s still doable. No dramas otherwise.
The winch has been great.

Thanks John U, I guessed it would fit but I always like to see if anyone has experience. I think I'll have to fit it myself (or get the Son in Law) as from what I've heard ARB won't fit (at the time of fitting the bar) things that they haven't sold.

Left field question? Are all winches the same dimensions in the 4 mounting bolt pattern? I know the motors/gearboxes/etc may vary in shape/size/orientation. It's asked a lot if a xyz fits a pqx. I bought a car it had a bar on it, that had 4 holes in it and a slot, all behind the number plate, so I filled it in with an aldi winch, and threw away shifted the number plate. Peace of proverbial pie 4 bolts, 2 holes drilled in the roller bracket.

It in itself is pulling or pushing direct at the back side of the bar, [bolts go straight in the front]. Again are cradles braced better than a brick toilet? To me its like you tug the 2 back bolts pivoting them over the front 2 with a cradle? no?

I agree with John U, the clutch lever is an awkward reach on my ARB bar. But on the Runva XP11 I dont see any way you can rotate the gearbox housing, unlike some others. I may be wrong so if there is a way, I would welcome feedback.

I've posted the following elsewhere but it belongs better here.....

My car is getting fixed and while the bar is off I decided to give the winch the once-over after 5 years. Opened the motor and was pleased to find it is pristine inside. No moisture, rust, dirt - nothing. All that need to be done is clean up the external terminals, they were a bit rusty. On the basis of the condition of the motor and Runva's lifetime mechanical warranty and their statement that routine servicing is not necessary, I am not going to pull the mechanicals apart. Also scared of screwing up the brake!

The motor condition totally validates Swaggie's Buy recommendation in the winch thread. Thanks Swaggie!

Now, why is my car getting fixed? It's because the bar mounts on the BT50 chassis failed, not from an overloaded winching event, but from fatigue caused by touring on outback (and therefore corrugated) roads. The ARB kit itself is fine, but the OEM plates welded to the end of the BT's chassis rails failed under the weight of the bar and winch trying to bounce up and down. I had a minor animal strike last year. The repair place thinks that may have started the failure and subsequent outback touring progressively increased the damage.

If it was a Ranger it would be the same.

Pics attached - same on both sides.

Of course you can rotate it, I had to move mine 45 degrees to suit the hole in the ironman bar. You just undo the bolts and rotate to any position you like.

Take off the four retaining bolts there which are allen key driven and then on the inside of the plate you will have a ton of a small allen key bolts which will allow the rotation.

Sorry I've had about six beers it's just the two top bolts the rods across the winch. As long as the winch is not bolted to the cradle the that's all that requiref to separate it and then you will see a whole bunch of allen key bolt inside.

Ahh, thank you Captain. I have been unable to find that info and without it, the procedure is not obvious.

Cheers

And now that I've seen that PDF, rotating 45 deg either way will not improve things, so it stays where it is.

It's been bugging me, but now I know there's nothing I can do about it.

My Runva which is currently about 4 years old is all pulled down at the moment due to it starting to make some horrid noise and the inside looks as though it was filled with water not grease from the manufacturer. NOT HAPPY is an understatement
The Aldi winch that cost less than half as much was like new inside after 7 years of hell

Is it the xp premium> I think it is mentioned above, life time mechanical warranty! if correct let them make good and repair

Mine was so noisy from new I stripped it down, cleaned it and filled it with plenty if quality grease and it was still moaning and rattling like a gearbox about to die - once my mate put the same winch in his triton it was also noisy so I just presumed that was how they built them. You'll notice when you pull one apart nothing in there is a particularly close fit, its just relying on pressure and the load to keep stuff in place it doesn't really have tight tolerances.
