Winch bar and Winch

Hello All,

After getting stuck at Bunyip last month, I have decided to get a winch bar and winch.

Got a quote from ARB, $1600 for the bar, Magnum $900.

I'm now looking at an Iron man bar, With a Tiger11 12000lbs.

If anyone and purchased any of the above, any feed back would be appreciated.

So far everything I've heard has been good for the Tigerz11 winch.

Dunno anything about the bar!

I have the Tiger winch & it has been great, the Ironman bars aren't as strong as say an ARB bar & they take twice as long to install because they don't fit properly. I think you get what you pay for & what is a few extra dollars now compared to many more dollars later if the product fails.

I had a 9000lb Magnum, it struggled a bit.
I have since put a tigerz single speed 12000lb on, and it is all good so far, comes with a remote as well.
I would of had to buy a remote for the magnum.
The 2 speed winches are a bit more maintenance, so i went for a single speed.
If you are in comps you would want a 2 speed i guess.
Both are about the same quility, both from China, both copies of the Warn.

you may find magnum winches are made in the U.S by WARN...

I heard Warn gets them made in China, The Warn winch made in the USA is like 3 times the price, Magnum is only around $900. It has warn in very small print on it.
I could be wrong i am just Quoting what i was told.
Warn does import the Magnum in here.

Yeah, the bloke from ARB said that the Magnum was Warns answer to combat the Chinese winch on the market. Didn't quite do it for me.

I have decided on on an ARB bar with a Tigerz11. A little more than I wanted to spend, but worth it as a long term investment. Should do the trick.

Thanks for your help lads.

Tigerz11 is good value and some feedback I have heard has been positive. I have noticed they are getting dealers in each state now

My son put an Ironman bar on his 100 series and was unlucky enough to hit a roo on the way back from Darwin. Bar folded back like paper and took the left mudguard and headlight assembly out. He replaced it with an ARB bar.

The Iron man is a lot thinner steel than the ARB.

iv got an old 2nd hand ARB winchbar i bought for $100, modified it a bit for better approach angle, moved antenna mounts in closesr to the middle and moved light mounts to fit lightforce 240's. i bought a warn 8274 highmount from a lady for $700 who has only used it once on her 80 series which she used for towing a horse trailer. there was about $30 worth of steel for modding plus about $40 worth of battery cable, solder, termials ect. i also give it a good paint. i also got an ARB latchlock winch hook for $25. and put on 2 10000 lb recovery hooks, about $20 ea. all up was well under $1000

I went the ARB and magnum winch..... Bar really good and winch pretty tough. I have used it to death winching other people and it has taken a fair amount of punishment. Only fault I found with them was the clutch release mechanism. It isn't a good size handle like the real warn it is just a small knob that is really difficult to twist. Most time I need a pair of fencing pliers to do the job. I gotta say it didn't get a lot of use first up but since I met Frosty and started giving it some use it is freeing up a little :D

Thanks bud, go ahead! :D

the bar still gives good frontal protection and strength of the original ARB bar, but has the approach of a cheezy / freedom automotive bar. i dont think those cheezy bars offer much protection around the sides and top of the bonnet like the ARB bars do.

Oznog, how is the winch going?

I'm looking at getting one soon; I already have the ARB bar.

Any pics?

have the old ARB adventure light and have been considering their newer LED light due to the florescent's incredible ability.
