Wild Weather!!

So, luckily (or unluckily) I was in Melbourne yesterday just knocking off work to see the amazing thunderstorms. It was absolute chaos, driving down Arden St in North Melbourne I saw cars completely underwater with just their roof being the only part unsubmerged! A number of times I had to to U-turns down main roads as the water was just too deep. What completely perplexed me was the number of idiotic people trying to drive through these waters in standard Fords and Holdens etc. I would have counted at least 100 cars broken down in 3 or 4 feet of water (sometimes more) in the middle of major roads. People obviously have no respect for what water can do to a vehicle. I was not in my 4WD but even if I was, snorkel and all, most of the flooding a saw would have still been to deep to cross. The Flemington drains had flooded out of their watercourse onto main roads. The currents in these parts I reckon would have been not unlike a serious water crossing in the high country. It was that bad.

I hope nobody was out wheeling yesterday when these storms hit, especially north of Melbourne or in the Latrobe Valley. I saw a few 4WDs coming back into Melbourne this morning Via the freeways, covered in mud, Motorbikes in the trays and broken winches (the cables were all wrapped around their bullbars). Would have made for some dangerous (but interesting) time in the bush.

Haha yes I would have charged 50 bucks a recovery! Nah not really. But some people could have really done with a hand.

Times like that i'l bet you wished that you were in your 4by !!!!

Hi teza h, I was in city yesterday, there were a few places that a 4by wouldn't have been much good. Dudley St was submarine material. :) :)

Cheers

If the wheather keeps up the way it's been going lately,we might have to come up with a "submersible kit" to fit on our 4by's, ha ha!

We missed all the fun by the sounds of things we were up at the Pinnicles and Talbotville area and had only a little rain to contend with. Mind you my shed in Morwell got flooded.

Didn't get the hail where we were but the Rubicon river rose a foot between Saturday and Monday and and the mud in the campsite was very rapidly replaced with a good 2-3 inches of fast flowing water as the camping area at Kendalls became a lake. Thank goodness we were in the camper, not tents like our friends and others!:D:D

We had a crew up at Dargo over the long weekend, we had heaps of rain & had to move all our tents before we went out for our day trip, I'm happy the TI wasn't at home because we got hail the size of small lemons, Bruce's (Croozer) was in the driveway & got damaged, our garage was 2 foot under water & mud, all Bruce's tools arn't happy. On the happy side it was only one car damaged not 2.

Hi lr98 I had just put the cars under the carport (like 10 seconds ago) when it came down. The hailstones were about the size of a tennis ball but luckily for us they were pretty soft. Really nasty that. It gave me a deep respect for our mates up in Qld as apparently this happens a bit up there.
