Anyone else wondering how most of us that are pushing 50 are still alive ???

Well, true, this guy made it to 70..

But some mentioned here didn't...

Though you may be on to something, notice the rise in deaths (2014) around the age of 50 and up..

In fairness, I've never heard of Legionnella being contracted by using one of the black bag showers, but the bacteriologist I spoke to was fairly firm on the problem being evident. All I was saying is I wouldn't use one...

um, ah, oh my goodness golly gosh.

Not having a reticulated water supply, nor a fortune to buy bottled water? What does one drink? Water from the sky, complete with dead frogs, bird excrement, dust, Brigalow leaves [and flowers, tea coloured tannins] probably a dead lizard, iron oxide [rust], galvanised residues, algae, beatles bodies both fresh and pre digested by the frog prior to its demise.

Hundreds/thousands of Australians were brought up on this concoction, and still survive with this as their only source of drinking water.

I don't drink chlorinated water, hate the taste, and feel like I need another drink immediately after. The next thing I will never touch is ''H2o'' brand bottled water, the most foul taste, Ever! for a bottled product.

Filters, to me most need a slow rate of flow? That's how I see it from early research, that I've not bothered to prove or disprove?

If I need to drink suspect water 5 minute rolling boil, man, fire, food, am I too intoxicated to boil 10 liters per night, let stand to cool while I sleep? I can even distill it using the boiling slightly modified if so facto?

oh AND ....

How many times have you smelt that gungy off smell from your own car air conditioner?

Call me fussy, I try to shut it off before [nominal time in minutes = 2 or 3] coming to a stop, with the fan on fresh/high to evaporate the condensation out. Works for me, no gungey smell, no organisms?

"The immune system keeps a record of every germ (microbe) it has ever defeated so it can recognise and destroy the microbe quickly if it enters the body again"

Yes, and is more or less effective in coming up with an effective opposition. You can have Giardia numerous times (trust me), usually because some small variation brings you down (evolution at work, whoda thought?). I wouldn't rely on being lucky enough to survive salmonella poisoning keeping you safe from a second exposure.

Fascinating how the system works though, eh?

Cheers,
Mark

Beer, obviously...

Iron Jack? Water first.

We all know, beer is a diuretic [well alchamohol] .... and as my hero Bare Gills once did, he caught a snake and skint it, I missed what he did when his back was turned to the camera, but I bet he filled that snake skin with beer.

Unless your lucky enough to have a compromised immune system, thanks to my current medication, still drinking unfiltered tank water. So far, so good.

I used to work in a Hotel that had its own water tank which was being fed by a creek.
Probably because it was a business & had to ensure water quality they had a large UV filtration system set up.

As to the black shower bags, I don't think the water would be in there long enough to be affected unless the water already has a high bacteria count
I use them all the time without issue, could add some vinegar to it to kill any bacteria I suppose?

I guess if you were concerned about water that's not filtered or stored for a while you could carry water purification tablets!
Just doesn't taste that great afterwards but at least will be a lot safer to drink.

I don’t really think it is that big a deal, look at the water quality in many parts of the world people consume. Us westerners have just become soft

It's easy to complain about quality or supply, when you pay $$$ for it.

But can we remember that lack of clean drinking water is one of the biggest killers to this day, we are just lucky, go live in Africa for a while if you feel our water is to "clean" ......
