As i am rebuilding my box trailer for offroad use, just wondering on peoples ideas and experiences are with off road hitches. Choices are keep the standard BALL COUPLING , TREG type coupling which covers a number of hitches, ORAC type coupling, HYLAND hitch or AT35 COUPLING.

Whilst not all that familiar whith some of these couplings, I have found the Treg hitch for my Kimberly camper to be very quiet, no rattle and carry on like a
the 2" ball hitch on my 'take crap to the tip' 6'X4' trailer .

I'll reserve my vote!!! Til later.

Good Idea - we have seen you try and remove your trailer with the treg hitch screwdriver and hammer comes to mind :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I like the Hyland Hitch - same movement as a treg, no need to carry two hitches as it fits a 50mm ball. We have one and have never had a problem.

AT35 all the way, it takes it a step furthr on than a treg, as it has a safety lock on it as a treg doesn't.

I'm a strong believer in the Treg although I've not experienced any of the others so don't really know.

Same as lowlux here - treg has been a great hitch for me. like anything keep it well maintained and it'll look after you.

the only thing you have to watch is the split pin it can jump off but haven't lost one yet. Also need to be relatively level to connect it but again not problems yet.

Good luck on the trailer

As I said before, AT35 is better because you have a safety lock on it that will not fall out. So it makes it the better choice.

Croozza not talking about when travelling just talking about when undoing pin when undoing hitch. couldn't imagine that split pin ever coming loose when towing

At35 doesn't have that pin as it has a safety lock on it, so no lost pins when unhitching.

From my observations, 90% of offroad camper trailers never take their trailer on tracks that warrant an offroad coupling. Most people tow the camper trailer on dirt tracks and set up a base camp. Of the other 10%, they need a coupling that will allow maximum articulation. I use a Trigg Bros coupling (Treg) and I am happy with that. I haven't tried the others, however there are more than one way to skin a cat.
