It'll still be the V8.

It will be the Prado 2.8L (with an auto?).

It'll be a detuned (single turbo) version of the V6 in the 300 series.

It will follow emerging general market trends, and be petrol.

That JDM 76 2.8 auto wouldn’t be a terrible thing esp if it got a coiled rear.

IMHO, there are 2 markets for the 70 in Australia.

The Corporate / Industrial / Farmer market who wont care about the engine so long as it is still reliable, in fact, corporates and Industrial companies will even suck up a lower emissions version so they can put that in their CO2 emission statements.

The other 10% of the market is recreational users. They will turn to Ineos or American utes.

What do they want in Africa and the Middle East? Can you still fit a rocket launcher and/or a 12.7mm Dushka in the back?

We're a tiny market in comparison.
The price tag for them is ludicrous too, the local dealer has a dual cab in stock and has something like $145k on the windscreen.

They're still FZ 4.5l petrols or 1HZ 4.2l diesels.

Could you imagine the 70 with Prado running gear, what a bucket of puss that would be, assuming the V6 turns out to be reliable with a auto that would be a car worth considering

The smaller engine would work in a smaller lighter-duty 70-series, like the old Bundera (BJ73)
I reckon they should introduce that again, given how popular the even smaller Jimny is.
I would be keen since the Jimny is just too small and powerless.

You may have found Matt's next 4wd

All Toyota has to do now is
  • Widen the rear track
  • Improve the oil seals so they automatically lubricate the roads
  • Swap the suspension to independant airbags for reliability.
  • Improve the Check engine light so it comes on more often.
  • Get rid of every dealer outside Toorak and Doncaster East ( because as we were told on 4x4Earth, Toyota needs more dealers because they are unreliable)
  • Fix the crank shaft so it lasts 40,000 miles between engine rebuilds
  • 10 more cup holders
  • Install the automatic headlining drop mode after 20,000km.
  • Remove all the real diff locks and replace them with highly reliable ABS e diffs.
  • Modify all the electrics so it goes into limp mode if the cigarette lighter breaks.
  • Include a de-badging option.
  • Include a Navigation screen that always displays which error is active right now instead of a pesky distracting map.
  • Wade height sensors that are not waterproof, and show you are in 800mm deep water even if it hasn't rained for a year.
  • Free for life Towing recovery service
:p

History would suggest they will use a form of the motor from the current Land Cruiser sedan

Been that way since it began

You need to add the handbrake features, no not it won’t release if dickheads don’t service it feature the it actually works and the emergency braking function
Oh you are probably not aware of the emergency function, oh hang on you know everything about them so you must be fully up with it. Care to tell everyone how amazing it is in an emergency?
At least with some of the stuff mentioned it will be closer to a decent touring rig

What a great idea. Sign up to win and get about 30 companies spamming you. And you have to unsubscribe to each one individually.

If you do win you get a pretty useless tourer with a wading depth of 300mm and 0 - 100 of about 20 seconds.
Agreed.
Just bastardised a functional Jimny for style. But if style is what you want then by all means go for it. Each to their own.
The cost of re-engineering would have added up, not to mention the bespoke comprehensive insurance coverage that goes with it.
You know some people will buy and wear a “Rollex” vs a Rolex. :-D
