Wheel Noises...???

Hi Guys, So today I was driving along next to a side barrier and heard a consistent noise, it sounds like a hissing noise, almost like a tyre leaking but also a little like metal on metal slightly touching..
I thought it might be the brakes but it comes and goes.. at slow speed there is no sound and it kicks in every now and then at faster speeds. Thought it might be something to do with the wheels bearings... not to sure.
Anyone have any suggestions of what this issue might be/how serious it might be??

it can be a number of things
1. crap in the brakes, or backing plates
2. crap inbetween any of the pullies on the engine
3. other vehicles near you.
just to name a few, and then it will depend on what conditions you are in.
First thing you need to do is give the vehicle a good underbody wash.
Have you checked the brake linings, are they low.

HiWatt.
Most likely 1.
My patrol sometimes picks up small stones and get caught between the disc and the backing plate.
A quick spin in reverse usually dislodges the stone, if not jack the car up take the wheel off and shine a torch betwen the backing plate and the disc to see if anything is there.

Could be a water pump on the way out too. Agree with croozza's items too

Could also be warped disc rotors. Had this on "The Golden One" a few months ago. A quick machine and all good.

It sounds like some dirt or crap has got on the brakes. Had the same problem yesterday with the 'Cruiser, turned out to be mud on the rear brakes.
