I use a north face when it's only for a couple of nights, mainly short fishing trips , this is my second one, used on everest, goes up in a couple of minutes, and can tack anything mother nature dishes out, other than that it's a camper trailer, (that has been sitting in mums garage most of it's life) and used barely at all in the many years Iv'e owned the thing. I am trying to get my daughter into the camping thing, I love it myself and hope she gets keen, it is a great way to spend some time. Some pretty good tents around nowadays. I could live in some of the ones Iv'e seen here.

I have a powerful 4x4 rooftop that has been great!
Easy to setup/packup when touring, very happy with it.
tho most weekend trips I just use the swag.

does anyone know ( coz I think I saw one mounted) if there is a rooftop tent that would suit my Navara? Brand? Price? Availability?

=D

have a freedom 1310 touring tent with the centre pole. i just use it for everything because it's so easy to set up. they cost the earth but you soon forget about that when you slap up a 3x4 meter tent in about 5 mins not to mention the other week when my mates got tent flooded and nearly blew away in a freak storm. the inside flooding was from his 3 yr old though.....

Me and the mrs are looking at upgrading from our K-Mart special. Had it in service for a good 5 or 6 years but it's starting to get a bit rough and needs a few new zips.

I like the OzTent RV series but having a tent that packs up to 2 metres?? Sorry - design flaw there, especially for those of us that drive a smaller truck. Possibly look at the Black Wolf Turbo series as they seem to pack up a bit smaller.

I know of two Nav's that have roof top campers fitted - a D22 and a D40. One has it fitted straight to his Rhino roof racks with some bolts and plates, takes 2 of us to lift it up and bolts on in 5 minutes. Couldn't tell you the brand though - but I figure most would bolt straight up to the racks.

On the D40 I think he has it bolted up a little differently as it sits over his canopy.

So yes there are definitely roof tops that will fit a Navara.

with the life we got out of the old one i went out and bought the same brand again cant go too wrong for 160 bucks for a 6 man tent must say the new one is harder to put up by yourself but the old one was only a 4 man

$200 BigW jobby about 3 years ago (only used twice)

Takes about 20minutes to set up I guess with x2 people and not too much swearing (just time consuming but not complicated).

It has a small awning for both the end doors as well as a full awning along both longer sides if you want (I usually just open both ends and one side awning)

Its x2 rooms that can be seperated with a internal zip door - Has a sunroof which I quite like as well :) Not too bad for the dollars I guess - It is actually easy to pack away as well (fits in the bag no problems)

Easiest way is use the center pole first and put it slightly forward, then you can easily stand and fit the side pole kit, remove the center pole and your done;)

Great Tip Walkabout,
Mine Is The Kalabarri, By Dmh. There A Great Tent, Sleeps Six.
It Didn't Come With The Center Pole, Only The Side Pole Kit. I Have Just Made An Adjustable Center Pole, So Should Be Easier Next Time.

I just bought 1 of those $350 from Anaconda. Are they good? I havent used it yet.

They are a great tent hiluxdriver, you see a lot of them on long camping trips, quick to set up, and store easily. I guess now you will start to see more of the oztent, but i won't be getting rid of mine, it's only about 10 min. longer to set up than an oztent.
cheers BOUNCY

yup, first setup a bit longer, did it on my own and have the side pole kit with it, pack up and bagged in 10 mins

next time should be no more than 10 mins putting it up,hardest part will be putting in pegs

We use a Vango Tempest 200+ for hiking and used to use a OzTrail dome for car camping but have no upgraded to a luxury 6 person Coleman Instant Tent which with the two of us takes about 50 seconds to put up and gives us room to have a proper bed inside - just picked up a self inflating queen mattress :)

Comfort here we come!
