we have just purchased a Black wolf turbo 300 , set it up the other day , did the hose thingy then packed it away once it was dry. Nice and easy tent to work with. Going to straddie on the 4th Nov so will get to test it out properly.

Just bought a Roman Tracker 3VD. Had all sorts of tents in the past (tiny domes, 8-man domes, canvas travellers, etc) and still haven't found something we really like yet (OzTent isn't an option due to the ridiculous size it packs up to). I'm hoping this will be the one. It's large enough inside for our queen self-inflating mattress, it's low (1.2m) so it's easy to get a tarp over if the weather goes really pear-shaped, it packs up small, has a 3000mm head rating, and a 10,000mm tubbed floor.

I've seen it sold under the Diamantina brand for over $250. We bought ours off Harvey Norman Big Buys website for $130 delivered! Using it for the first time this weekend up in Dargo.

This our tent, Oztrail Chateau 10. We've had if for about 5 or more years now and has been on plenty of trips. Bad points: heavy, takes about 1 hour to completely set it up, rarely fits back in the bag in came in. Good points: very roomy, comfortable, water proof, heaps of windows and vents, good quality canvas, cheaper than a camper trailer :):):)

After Skipworth, I managed to get it back in its bag with no probs. My 12 year old Daughter gave me some suggestions when packing it up:) Its a wonder how children have a different view of things

We just bought an Oztent Jet Tent F25x. Only been on 1 weekend trip but seems excellent. Great quality, heaps of room, very easy up and down, and fits back into the bag with ease :) Gusseted windows are great, ropes have own zip pockets, huge awning which is not part of the fly like a Black Wolf Turbo, awning side panels are an excellent addition and much the same as the Oztent RV5 etc.

Seriously is one person up and down in less than 10 minutes easily fly included...not sure about the 30 second claim but i wasnt that naive!

Really have nothing bad to say except the price but hopefully the quality proves itself?

I got an RV3 oztent and i love it.

I can put it up when i'm drunk, it's easy to pack up hung over.

Unlike most tents, if you open the vents it dosent get hot during the day, so you can sleep off a hang over.

The missus and i were campin on fraser for a week and it rained ever night very heavily for that week, not a drop of water came through the canvas.

Definatly worth the money i paid for it!!

Agree with you Munter, we have the RV5 with all the add ons, basic tent takes 60 secs including pegs, when you need to peg it down LOL is worth the extra $$$$$ for ease of set up-take down.

jeez i need some tent erecting tips i think  There is no way i can get the tent out of car, lay a tarp down, put tent bag on tarp, open bag, get tent out, erect tent and peg in anywhere near 60 seconds.
I dont really try though...the holiday starts when i leave my driveway and nothing is a hurry ;)

I have been researching and got down to Oztent or Black Wolf, with the pref leaning toward B.W. then I found this:-

http://www.ozwild.com.au/index.php?...roduct_id=61&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=223

It looks too good to be true with 14oz canvas and all the other specs look too good too.
Anyone even heard of them?
If they are anywhere near as good as they sound, why can't I find any reviews or opinions on any forums when I google?
I am tempted to try one at that price, even if there is trouble, they have a 12 month warranty.
Call me a cynic, but the old saying, "If it looks too good to be true.........." seems to apply.

Never heard of them mate, but it looks good value for money.
Might be worth a punt, especially with the warranty.
The only down side for me is, I don't really like centre pole tents.

The best investment in camping gear...

So a few years ago I began my 4wd adventures, it started down in the Avon Wilderness and I had bought a massive 8 person done tent on special from Anaconda. It took an hour to set up, and gave tonnes of room. But it bucketed down, and leaked like a sieve and then took forever to pack up! As it was a moving camp ever day I dreaded the setup. Missed heaps of campfire banter and almost killed someone.

So I began my research in to quick tents, the usual and highly recomended oz tents showed up, but I had friends with them and found them impractical. Reasons - they are long and quite heavy, and they take longer to dry in the mornings. As I wanted standing room initially it was really difficult. So I reassessed my needs and said I want a canopy area for shoes so they don't come in the tent, and I want it to be quick, and room for bags.

I came across an amazing range of 2second tents, and the brand Quechua. I was sold! I couldn't believe that a rent goes up so quick an down so quick too. It's light, compact, and has the required canopy. There is a lot of imitation/rip offs of theirs but they hold the patents so I invested a little more to get it, and I have to say it is the best money I have ever spent!

Rain hail or shine its simple and easy set up means I am enjoying the camp quicker, it's a one person setup, and if I do pack it up wet it takes two seconds to set up on the deck at home to dry. To sweep out grass and dirt I pick it up and tip it, and it is the warmest tent I have ever slept in! In dry nights I leave the exterior door open but when cold I still hardly use my sleeping bag. It is completely amazing. Being from Europe I can see why it is so good. I am about to buy a newer version as mine has been used almost every second weekend (set up and packed up) and I accidentally dragged it on concrete with my tool kit in it to stop it from blowing away, and put a few small holes in the bottom. It's going to remain my spare.

That was the only thing I didn't like too, but for that price, if they are good, then I could live with it.
I wonder if the side pole kits from other brands fit? That would be a game changer!!!

.

I checked them out here:- Seconds Family 4.2 - Family camping tents - Quechua

Looks to have too few windows, and small ones at that. Also looks complicated, but maybe that is just appearance. (ropes everywhere!!) I would like to see one being put up to get a better idea.
Can't even tell how the doors operate from the pics.
They don't look to be made of heavy canvas either?

No, it's not canvas and personally I like that. The 4.2 has windows in the doors facing inwards, the entry and back of the entry have large windows from what I can tel, and ventilation on the roof of each side.

This sort of thing struck me as odd when I bought Seconds + III - Instant tents - Quechua but it means that it is warm at night, with little condensation build up, and you don't normally spend much time in there during the day. I admit like all tents it does get too warm during the day but we leave the fly screen as the only thing done up.

If you look at this video of the XL version Seconds Family 4.2 XL - Instant tents - Quechua you will see how it works. Bearing in mind if you have seen people putting (read trying) the shower tents down, your experience with these tents is incredibly different and easy!

I am going to be purchasing one of these 2 Seconds XXL IIII - Instant tents - Quechua for a bit more room, and because the larger ones aren't available cheaply enough. Plus I don't really need a larger option. The only thing I will have to get use to is laying the ground tarp first, but I see this as been a positive as it will mean I can keep it separate if damp or dirty. (The main tent part still has a fixed floor to it.)

As for their ropes been everywhere I can see how it looks like that. But the way these ropes work are they are joined to the tent in two places, pegged in one, so that makes it just hold its stance rather than pulling to tighten for any strength (very different thought to convention tents)... this one due to size does have a few more admittedly but they are not tensioned the same way as mentioned before.

IMHO I chose these for weight and size, it sits above my other gear neatly, and is always the last thing I pack up, first thing out. If I had a one pole tent, it would be laying on me in the morning no doubt LOL and from experience with dads old tent, it wasn't at all nice to be in in the wet. Happy to be in newer technologies.

they are almost identical to the DUNE kimberly tourer tents, I have the Kimberly tourer 9 which has the centre pole and side pole kit.

Centre pole is good for setting the roof up then offset the pole to put up side pole kit and remove centre pole, clears the floor space

refer to my post above regarding these tents.

Also, the benefit of this tent is the door which becomes an awning is equal in size (squarish) unlike most of the others is kimberly tourer, is that that door, even though it becomes an awning, it is angled which is not the best for an awning
