I’ve had another on going project this week.
Intercooler upgrade for my 120 prado.

I’ve been looking everywhere for an upgrade option. Of course. eBay wins again, sorta

They have intercooler upgrades for the hilux d4d engines but not the 120 d4d.
I asked the sellers if this would fit my car. They said no. I looked into it more and found that we shared the same intercooler ( sane engine as far as I’m concerned.

So bugger it. I took the plunge. I actually found 1 seller selling a different style altogether that is suppose to suit the hilux engine.

The only difference I could see between this and the other “ upgrade” intercooler is this is 60mm all the way, and bigger bar and grill design.

The other upgrade coolers look like they are the same as stock with an Ali end tank is stead of plastic.

One down side to the lot bigger cooler, the engine cover needs to be modified to fit,and only 3 of 4 mounts fitted. Last mount needs to be die grinders pinch more.

The new cooler has def made an improvement. Lot more responsive and def more go.

The stock coolers are very restrictive.

I did give it a quick wrap around the block. A test using a laser thermometer showed 12 degree different between the 2 side

Bought myself a new T Max 10,000 lbs winch today. Describing it as new is probably not quite accurate as I was told it's about 8 years old but at $300 I figured it was worth a gamble. It's never been unwrapped or taken out of the box.

Wire rope which I can change out later if I so decide. I will check it over before fitting, grease the gears etc.

The 3 red circles bolted up to the standard mounting. The yellow circle is off by about 10mm. You could die bring the mount slightly to fit if you wanted too. I’m not bothering. Oh and I had to shave a pinch of the washer on the bolt

That’s under the cooler. Just clears that plug. Nothing else is closer.

To install the intercooler. Fit the silicon hose on the outlet side of the cooler. Then fit the inlet pipe into the turbo, then do the 4 bolts that secured inlet pipe to the cooler. Wiggle it around until you get the 3 mounting bolts in. Then do it up.

The wiring loom to the map sensor is a pinch short to have it back in its original position. I just cable tied it to a spot on the cooler.

Original engine cover doesn’t fit anymore. It’s just off and recess to oil cap is bit off.
I’m not bothering with it

Is it worth it. HELL YES. quicker spool, more power, fuel economy has improved big time. I have only done about 250k with it on. And I’m 100% sure economy had improved. Ive started getting low 10-9.5 liter per 100 on my short highway drives. Never did that before.

I do have a bonnet scoop, and that has made a difference.

I’m changing I’m intercooler thermo fan as we speak as I’m not happy with that one.

Nothing exciting but I have been having issues in the new house & carport with clearance for the BT50 2013 ,
The std rooftop antenna 52 cm on a sloping angle back wouldn't fit under . Ive only a 2" lift and 31" tyres .
Found a genuine Mazda part off a CX3 & similar that is short & stubby that fits and works well as good as the old one.
Problem solved .
Part #EG2366A30
$30 with free post on Ebay , Fits Rangers as well .
No point posting a photo , just unscrew the old one and screw the new one in .

Ive just installed a new MAF sensor like 2 months ago.

whats made a big difference is replacing the map sensor filter

Its awsome that you have the bonnet scoop. Makes a difference Ive installed the 2 fin design.
Im converting the 120 prado air con condensor fan as my intercooler fan. It fits perfectly. That fan pushes so much air. Ive taken off my 10" high flow 120w fan as its does a little but not much.. Ive just siliconed in a new rubber seal around the inside edge of the fan. Once dry, I will mount it.

I did look at the endless air, but cant justify a grand

I’ve gotten rid of my crappy 120w high flow 10” eBay fan and replaced it with an air condition condenser fan for a 120 prado.

This fan pushes heaps more air than before

Im thinking about using the face lifted hilux scoop on my 120 also. Could you provide a photo of it under the bonnet?

Bought a set of unused 2018 Ford Ranger 18"wheels and tyres for my BT50. Fitted them for a photos and back in the shed until the Banglops wear out which shouldn't be long. 8 mm deep tread new, drive tyres down 2 mm after 13,400 kms in a month. Steer tyres down 1 mm, all rotated now. Lucky to see 50,000 kms out of them. More Ford branded bits, even the steel wheels are FOMOCO. Only Mazda signs are the name badges on the cabin, every other part has a barcode and FOMOCO sticker on it.

Put some new rubber on. Went with the BFG's again. Replacing the KO1's for KO2's.
I even stuck with the std 265's even though 285's will fit no problems. I guess if it ain't broke yet why try to fix it ;)
Tried and proven setup that works well.

My dear old 40 Ch UHF Radio that I have had for 20 years has passed on :( - So I bought a new 80 Ch Uniden & the new set is so small you can install it anywhere, BUT, I now have an empty Din Slot in my dash if I install it somewhere else & the somewhere else HAS something else!
I thought how about throwing the guts of the old 40 Ch out & installing it inside, so that is what I did.

UHF 80 Ch installed into 40 Ch (1).jpg

I used the speaker from the 40 Ch as an "External" - Works great!

All finished with the Dummy Knobs back in place.

Back in the dash with the Mike on the Right.
(I will have to put a Dummy face on the screen to make it look better).
BTW I ordered it on the Net from GadgetCity in Sydney at 3pm & it was on my door step at 9am the next morning Post Free.

R I P to the TX4200 [should I admit to knowing the model number by the color of the dup button? ] about $420 when they come out, same as the TX4000, I thought they were near bullet proof, until some noddy got in a fight with neighbours who ripped out the coax from areal then the oxygen thief hot melt glued it back in ...

Very Innovative and creative way of re-using the case, the dummy screen should show something to make everyone think it is a very special set. The only better speaker is a GME extension speaker, or an old B&W tv speaker < they made excellent extension speakers.
