It is VERY wet and boggy up there at present, i'd avoid Drury Lane and bottom of Lemon Tree is also a mess, seems western end toward The Basin is dryer than the eastern side as we've been up there last few days doing recoveries and checking tracks.
Up to you but something to think about before heading up.

Yeah mate. I know what you mean, I was at Ourimbah last Saturday it was pretty slippery and almost slipped into the can opener & the week before that Cut Rock wasn't to bad but struggled to get traction on CPT80. I don't worry about doing Lemon Tree Road as the bog hole is undrivable and as you said becomes a long recovery session. Will check out the other tracks and see how we go? All this rain is making 4WDing a bit more challenging & exciting.... but we can't change the weather.

Hey mate the disco only has all terrains and 32s. I think based on previous comments that I may be better of sitting this one out, hopefully by next time things have dried out a bit.

It's not really a case of challenging, with all this rain atm we have up here doing a lot of the tracks up there will only trash them more than they already are, just sayin...

I may be speaking out of turn as I don't know the tracks you guys are talking about, but, my thoughts are the hardcore tracks are there to challenge, if it's wet and their chopped up; then their a challenge.
But I definitely agree that chopping up fire trails and access roads into camping areas is a big no no. Like I said I don't know the area at all, just my opinion.

Good to see such great attitudes guys, nice to know that responsible 4wders aren't such a dying breed.

There should be no such thing as a "hardcore track" anywhere that isn't privately owned bush. All legitimate tracks are (or were) there for a reason! They weren't carved into rock and slashed down to "challenge" you. There are plenty of iconic tracks out there that are well known for their difficulty, but just like the recent grading of Billy Goats, they are still tracks that have a purpose and need not to be unnecessarily destroyed in between maintenance (if they are even maintained at all anymore). What classifies as a "fire trail" or "camping access road" to you? What if that "hardcore track" you deem not to be as important as these other tracks is the only way around a bushfire? There's no excuse for unnecessarily chopping up tracks of any kind, as the only people it will affect in the long term is us as 4wders. I've been through plenty of sh!tty muddy steep tracks but never have I intentionally set out with the knowledge that track conditions would not be optimal. Plenty of other ways to challenge yourself without doing so at the cost of track damage.

I get your point, I'm more thinking of a few areas I know where there is an access road getting into a spot then there are several different climbs up crappy rocky hills which is not the main access track through.as I said I don't know the area but was picturing the YouTube clips I've seen of cut rock and I couldn't imagine that was part of a fire trail.

I do a lot of driving through fire trails and private track for work and believe me I am the first to yell and scream at f#=kwits tearing along waterlogged tracks, but I also enjoy hitting tough stuff just for the challenge.

Im in the same boat as you we use the access tracks for work especially underneath the transmission powerlines (the massive powerline towers) and its frustrating to try and drive along them when youve had some d*** head tearing them up. Thats why so many are locked (I have keys shh) but for the casual bloke thats just looking for a challenge its getting harder. I dont care if people use those tracks just remember that people use those tracks for work.and as weve all seen its easier to just lock them down now. Its a privilege to use them not a right.
