Hey who's up for a day trip to the Watagan Mountains this Saturday?

I mentioned that I am looking for tracks around Sydney in the thread I posted yesterday 'Tracks around Sydney for day trip' and got a few responses not to mention the start of a debate on a particular track.

I bought the Central Coast Forest Map today which has a few major tracks on it but I'm sure we will find many more and if any of you know the area then that would be an advantage as I have only been there once before.

So who ever wants to join me on Saturday is welcome to come along (ThePug, I hope your keen). It will be an early start, I am setting out from Sydney at 7am. Exact meeting place and time is still to be arranged.

PS: It should be fun if it keeps raining

If you have a good printer and use google maps for watagan state forest then zoom in you will get a heap more named & un-named tracks and a lot more detail.
There are loads of unmarked trails leading off the main ones like Walkers ridge trail which range from tame to insane, some of the bog holes off the main tracks are deep (even in mid summer) but these are usualy preceeded by huge ruts, not many of the side tracks have chicken track options so best to look before you leap.
Anyway have a great day out and we will look forward to some pic's.

Yeah, man I know, I book out 6 weeks in advance with work, kids and 3 other forum's meetups, not to mention working on the Truck. Wish I had more time to do the fun things. Making time is getting harder and harder.
Cheers Andy

ThePug, a few mates and I did our day trip yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't really give enough notice for others so it just ended up being two 4WDs all up, which is always better than going alone (especially in this case).
We started of in Little Jilliby and search for Dainels Point Rd but ran into private property so we decided to go up Brothers Rd from Little Jilliby Rd which was pretty tame. After driving the watagans Mountain Rd we took a few turn offs onto fire trails, one being reasonably steep an quite muddy. ThePug was sliding his way down and I was soon to follow. we made it down ok, going back up as it was a dead end was another story. We endend up having to move a heavy log which took all six of us to move and all I can say is that I am glad that ThePug bought a hand winch or we would have been stuck down there a hell of a lot long.
Atfer a nice picnic in the Pines we discovered a track that connects the National Park to the Watagans State Forest which I have added to the tracks list.
After all that 4WDing somthing had to go wrong and ThePugs tranfer case broke leaving him between high and low range. So I had to tow him down the mountains, sadly about 16kms from Cessnock his brakes gave up leaving no option but to call a tow truck.
We had a great time and I'm looking forward to doing it again. All the best to ThePug and I hope he gets his car fix soon.

Check out the pics!

Far out man, It's always the easy trips that just turn into huge night mares with damage and breakages. My buddies and I always say beware of fire trails, you get bored of then and start going harder then, OOPS, you are on your side or both CV's are shattered or you have five trucks bogged in the same quicksand. BEWARE THE FIRE TRAIL.
Sounds like you had a good time anyway, Cheers Andy.
