Hey guys i'm a 4x4 virgin and i've just got my first "truck". We're looking to get into a bit of 4 wheel driving and i reckon this could be a good place to start.
I would love an honest opinion from any Victorians about heading up around Merrijig and Sheepyard flats area at this time of year.... Would it be a good idea or am i just gettin my ambitions confused with my abilities?

Cheers Barney Rubble

Welcome Aboard, I bought my first 4WD about 20 months ago, and I have found this site to be very useful. I'm sure you will find plenty of good tips and ideas on here

Hi barney welcome to the forum those areas are a good place to go in my experience up there you may want to stay away from sheep yard on long weekends it turns into a resort with heaps of people but is a good area to 4x4ing if you can try and get in with others that are running a trip or run one yourself I just post it in the trips section cheers

Merrijig and Sheepyard are 2WD, Anything past Fred Frys hut area starts to be 4WD territory. Any $wd tracks are bound to be closed , so it is no go for very good reasons, generally they are gated and some are just signposted so .

I would prefer that you met up with some of the forum and got a little bit of experience with them first . I must admit that I am of the three vehicle school of thought unless you have a lot of experience under the belt or unless it is in dire emergency .

Drop a post in the forum and see if there are any takers, you may be very surprised ,
