Theres quite a few camping spots along the river between these. Crap road from Matlock to Aberfeldy but enough other driving to out weigh that. As for the rest, seems like you have an awesome plan. If time permits, take the track past Blue Rag Trig and right down to the river, its awesome appearantly. Wish I did it when wewere there at Easter this year.
Dont forget report and pics after you get back!! We will be camping near Arbuckle Junction 01, 02 and 03/01/10.

Nick

We'll probably leave O'Tooles on the 3/01/10 and head for Licola.

mark i was haveing a look at wombat range trk you posted on the site ... its listed as extream. got me a tad worried as iv done many hard tracks on the site and havent been much of problem but i have been on a few extream trks and have not been able to complete them all... like the lower sections on oregan trk, some sections of alcorns trk. and sections of ellis trk, i personally think any trks that extream would need 35's or bigger, diff locks so on. to complete, what rig did you get through in ? big tyre's, diff locks?...

Hi,
The track down to the river after Blue rag is narrow with overgrown pin stripping vegetation.I would not recommend taking a trailer down there. It leads to an open camp on the river. There is another track the other side of the river opposite.Where it goes i don,t know. But in that saying everyone has to do Blue Rag:)
Enjoy

I did the Wombat range track last in an 80series with 33's and lockers. It can be easily done with 31's but a good idea to have lockers. The reason I posted it as extreme is because it is very very very steep with sharp drop offs, not one for the feint hearted. Its been a while since i've done it so some local knowledge would be great before I tow my Kimberly up. It will be behind a Prado with 31's and traction control. It is a much more capable car than the 80series but the Kimberly is 1400kg. If it was like it was last time I was there I'll do it with no problems at all.

Hey there guys..... i'm heading up that way too... camping on bourke st (sheepyard flat) with my wife and 1 year old, we'll be heading up lunchtime christmas eve and staying till 2nd jan.. i've actually never done any serious offroad driving but i'm pretty keen to learn. If any of you guys are camping there i'd love to catch up for a beer and a chat so i can get some insight into the area... and if somebody knows an easy type track nearby, and has the time to come along with me it'd be much appreiated. I'm hoping to get the cb installed before i go and i have a snatch strap, that's all.
Cheers Barney rubble

I'm not familiar with Bourke St Sheepyard Flat but I can say we will be arriving at Frys hut on 27th. That is at the end of the Howqua track at sheepyard flat. I'd be happy to meet you and have a beer and a drive. Actually we are planning one across to Craigs hut no doubt on the 28th.

Hey marksorensen that'd be great.... Now for the hard part.... how to find each other. I know i'll be on the fry's side of sheepyard flat camping in a stock Navara with a single driving light on the roof and you'll be in a Prado i'm guessing. I'm not even totally sure the CB will be working by then, i'm heading out now to rewire the trailer and then look at the radio.
My Email address is brett.barnett@ymail.com if you'd like to contact me and we can sort something out.

Phil, in regard to Wombat Range, you should be fine. Again did it in January & whilst steep in sections you should be fine & many vehicles without diff locks/big tyres can complete it without too many problems. If it is wet, another story but alot of the tracks up there dry out reasonably quickly.
Not bragging but I did Wombat Range Tk in extreme dry conditions at Easter 2007 in my STOCK 2004 Pathfinder with OEM HT tyres at 38PSI !! I sure turned some heads when we got to the top, but found it quite an ok drive. For a newby. Only got the Pathy in Oct the year before. Didn't know you had to let the tyres down.....
