howdy Guys and Gals,

just want to float an idea of a trip in vic.
thinking out of the square, and somewhere that I guess not a lot of people have experienced before,
Trip to the snow or even a sand dune trip .

what do you reckon ?
and who has experienced this type of driving before ?

cheers

James (Patriot) has experienced snow driving, although not that successfully, he was driving his Patriot at the time, and he reckoned that the tyres were more slippery than silicon, LOL.:mad::( He will probably want to try in his Maverick now. :D:D:D

A few head up around Mt Skene for snow trips, have done a couple myself. The road is officially closed over winter these days though.
Closest dune trip would probably be Robe. Portland used to be a goer for clubs, but not sure now what
happens there, not much I think?

A snow trip could easily be a day but doing some dun es would have to be a weekender I guess coz of how ar the nearest ones are.
As an idea, the boarder track maybe?

There has been some discussion with the other Flinders Mob about doing the border track on Oct long weekend.
Haven't done it ourselves yet but believe to do full length, North to South is about 3 days however we think there are spots to get on and off so maybe a shorter version could be planned.
Only other problem would be it maybe crowded, by SA standards anyway

Border Track was bloody fantastic, did it year before last. just make sure you don't do what i did and come off a rise and blow out your right-rear shocker on landing shortly before losing your main brake line...

Can't help myself Grumpy ,
We've been planning 2011 "An Outback Adventure" since 1998 and our hardest major decisions was accommodation. We've looked at the full gammet and reached tenting where/when we want which will save money for staying in Motel/Resort at other times. The Flinders trip was my (Kaz) first tenting experience and I loved it. We've done many late nights round a campfire at Kuitpo Forest but never camped as it's only 1/2 hr from home.

We've never needed much of an excuse to take off in Ekki , just the two of us and weave around the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsular and the closer May 2011 comes the more excited we are becoming (just like little kids).

When I found 4x4Earth it was exactly what I had been hunting for.
Tracks from around Australia, in one place, with some details by real people who had actually driven on them and
To meet people from around Australia with similar interests that we can meet and maybe show us first hand what their backyards are like. :D

So a few hesitations where put to rest after Flinders :)

Finally
We had so much fun we want to do it again.

I can sort your accommodation out!!:D:D:rolleyes::rolleyes:;);):cool:

Let us all know the details if you want some tag alongs. It's never too early to get in and start planning, as you said you've been planning since '98.

I think we've got a Cape trip planned next year and we will need a biggy for the year after....:D:rolleyes:

OK here goes,
At this stage we are working on heading north from Adelaide onto the Oodnadatta Track on what looks like a small track north of Olympic Dam (near Woomera). We want to look around the launch sites up that way. We'll turn off the Oodnadatta Track and check out Coober Pedy, there is an underground caravan park here or at least there was. Then back onto the Track again via The Painted Desert, I've read the colours at sunrise and sunset are amazing and a must for anyone who likes photography. There is a station nearby that has a camping ground which is close to the Desert :D

After Oodnadatta we head North and onto Mt Dare and Mt Anado and into Alice Springs from the East, probably taking time out to have a squizz around the East Macdonnell Ranges which I have heard are just as good, if not better (less crowds) then the other side of Alice. Of Course we will do the West Mac's and do the outer loop around to Kings Canyon, can't think of the name. Anyway have a look around Ulluru etc then back to Alice.

Not really sure which way to go then, Have to see the Devils Marbles and then North to all the places I've heard about since my grandmother travelled up this way in the mid 1950's.

After Alice we will ....
head North till we reach water, then West till we reach water, then south till we reach water and finally East till we get back to Adelaide. There is no time limit, in fact there is no real schedule at this stage at all. The major task is devising a route with as little blacktop as possible.... and still seeing as many amazing places as possible. I'm will be documenting it on a website as you can imagine there are many people over the years that have heard us rant about this trip.

Anyway I dribble on
After we get back to Adelaide we have no plans whatsoever. If we like the lifestyle, (and think we will) we might just keep on going. Working when we need to but living as cheaply as we can. Well that's the dream anyway. :D

So after Alice really I've hit a stumbling block as we are now over the border and in completely virgin territory for both of us. Gulp. Hence I arrived here....... at 4x4 Earth
And now look at me,
I've become a forum junky........ :eek: :eek: :eek::eek: :p :D :D

Or.....
You could give us a trailer and in return we will take it all over the Central & Western Australia, further expanding your National exposure. Hey we'll even give you your own dedicated part of the website - The Adventures of a Camper Trailer..... ;) ;) :D

or we could just buy the tent..
