Surely it wouldn't be caused by over tightening wheel nuts, more likely years of corrugations ?
It is a Patrol so over tightening is more likely to cause the wheel falling off due to stud failure ...
Years of fatigue and a heavy 4wd would be my guess

Unless there's a flaw in the wheel, which is quiet possible. IMO there will be a route cause for only one spoke to develop a crack like that. My guess is many cycles of minor deflection, possibly a crook wheel, but also possible from my expirence to indroduce deflection from over tightening one or two wheel nuts on a steel wheel similar but not the same as the one above.

Pretty sure mine are ROH, has the damaged wheel got or had a lot of wheel weights to
balance it ?

The route cause will still be the rim deflecting. Heavy loading light gauge steel or poor quaility and designed wheels is a sure recipe. Yours look to be nice and thick, you just need to make sure your not the cause.

Some wheels are scored as the cutout is punched [die punch & shere] leaving the beginning of a weak point for failure to start? [aircraft suffer fatigue from vibrations]
Young and lazy time efficient grubs in the tyre service rattle each nut as it appears in a circle, not many use the correct method to pull a rim down by using the opposite nut in turn ..... how can I have 3 bent studs in the spare carrier? because those studs are just mild steel, no need engineer any fine tolerance, so i thought? until little grub bent all 3 in one go!! i was like peaced out !!

Had a quick week away with the old man, around lake eyre. Farina bakery was open on the way up so we poped in a loaf if bread and pies, the volunteers had done a fair bit of work since the last time I was up there they had a fair few plp doing stone work and a new few new buildings in the same era, no photo's
We made it a far as coppers camp along the birdsville track

The best camp was about 50km north of marree at a staion called muloorina, only one way in and out, only good if you have a few days spare

and some of the drivers during the mini holidays didnt move off the middle of the dirt roads so bloody annoying forcing me off, where there would have been enough room for 2 cars to pass. one was a bright red amarock, white 200 series.

well I notice i was using a bit of coolant on the last high country trip, my mechanic took the head off, off to the machine shop, then found out the short block it warped as well so a full engine rebuild with arp studs. I have already upgraded my injectors and turbo
