Surely it wouldn't be caused by over tightening wheel nuts, more likely years of corrugations ?
It is a Patrol so over tightening is more likely to cause the wheel falling off due to stud failure ...
Years of fatigue and a heavy 4wd would be my guess
The route cause will still be the rim deflecting. Heavy loading light gauge steel or poor quaility and designed wheels is a sure recipe. Yours look to be nice and thick, you just need to make sure your not the cause.
