Setting up the Patrol with UHF. Is there an un written rule that most people use as to what channel is used on tracks. If a common chanel is used it would be handy i.e for traffic on narrow tracks etc. Then general conversation for a group switch to a clear chanel.

G'day ozne,

Have a look in the Communications Equipment section of the site. Comms Equipment - 4x4 Earth There are some threads there discussing this topic. Generally, channel 40 is the traffic channel when out on the roads etc. Channel 5 is reserved and can only be used in limited circumstances. A lot of log trucks, around Victoria anyway, use channel 18.

Personally, I use 27 when out bush to communicate with others I am traveling with, but that is just my choice, you could use almost any channel.

Channel 10 is recognised as the Australia wide 4x4 or outback channel.

Have a look at the different National Parks sites on the web and the say channel 10.

We always travel scanning channel 1 to 40 unless in convoy.

Channels as listed above plus

Channel 10 is 4x4 or outback

Channel 18 is used by caravaner's.

Channel 40 is used by truuckies (and 39 as a secondary chat channel ).

There may be other community channels that are used locally.
