Truetrac alternative any good?

Hey people! Saw these online the other day, seem to be a copy of the Eaton Truetrac. Has anybody bought one, or have any experience with them? The price is tempting...

I have them in my Disco 1, first I did the back, price being the main motivation, at the time I could not afford a e locker and was not interested in an air locker and couldn't go an auto locker due to the use of the car. It transformed how the car went off road so later on I did the front as well, I now often go the same places twin locked patrols on 35's go without issue.
The only down side is they act like an open diff when one wheel is totally off the ground but that doesn't make any difference to me because I learnt how to drive a open diff 4wd with no traction aids so left foot braking or driving through the brake is second nature which I do without even realizing.
Not as good a manual locker but still very good

I had one in my 3 litre Mazda, good bit of gear and as per what Discomatt said. Standard LSD in the Mazda craps out really quickly, guarantee if it's original it will be shagged.

Thanks for the feedback guys. My bt has 140k on the clock and have noticed the lsd isn't performing as well as it used to. Do a lot of driving on slippery roads and feel the lsd is more of a benefit to me than a manual locker... and less than half the price for one of these.

Another great advantage of the Truetrac is that they have no clutch pack so do not loose any operation as they get older. Mine are at about 180,000 km now with no issue at all and still work like the day they were installed which is pretty good given the things I do to that car

I'm in the same boat at the moment trying to buy a helical lsd for my hilux
I found those ones you listed similar in price to an original truetrac. I emailed them and they say they are identical to the truetrac (ie copied) so I would be more inclined to go the original.

I've been doing some digging and a couple of Russian companies make helical LSDs as well, but they have some sort of preload mechanism to supposedly help in zero load conditions like when a wheel is in the air. They also have more pinions than the truetrac so they should be stronger.

If the bastards would answer my emails I would buy one.

From memory another member here had one of the Russian variants, it may have been @dirvine in his little Chinese ute

Some eatons are pre-loaded too although in a rear diff I'd be less worried if it wasn't. In a front diff especially IFS or live axle with limited articulation I'd lean toward a locker - with that said my tru trac is in the front.

Sorry for the horrible pics, tried scanning but wouldn't work.

Interesting I've emailed these local guys again to see if their ones have any preload.
I'm pretty sure the Eaton hilux one doesn't have any.

I didn't even ask for mine but as you know my car doesn't pick wheels up much anyway and I've just gone 2 inch longer in the front shocks too so droop will be improved. Can't wait to try the trutrac front, locker rear combo.... If we can ever go again.

Have done some more research and since found these ones, 6 helical gears, and preloaded!

Look at wavetrack lsd to I had that in a previous car. Was stronger than the harrop true track as well which i blew up! But anyway id still just go locker.

I've tried to find reviews on those Torque Worm ones from Speedmaster but didn't have much luck. Plenty of not-so-hot reviews about Speedmaster as a company, but not much about the actual diff centers.
To me they look a lot like the Russian ones I found, same specs too. My guess is Speedmaster import them.
I'm tempted to try one myself and see if the preload makes them any better than a genuine truetrac.

Wavetrac's look great, I wish they made them for the hilux. I asked about a custom unit, 1200 USD each @ minimum 30 units.
