Trip up the Birdsville Track

Hi All

I'm looking to organise a trip up the Birdsville track. Leaving Melbourne and taking 2 days to get to Marree. 1 day up the track to Birdsville and then 2 days back to Melbourne.

If anyone has done the Birdsville Track (I know this is a silly question) could let me know on whether this is a realistic timeframe or should I extend it out. By the way, I'm taking the Hand Brake and kids.

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated

Sandman,

You would be having a rather quick trip to do the track from Maree to Birdsville in one day.

Take two days and visit a few of the bores, Gwydirs memorial, etc., and stay overnight at Mungerannie. You won't be disappointed if you do.

The key for Gwydirs memorial is available from Etadunna Station.

Have a good trip.

You will probably only do this trip once so my 2 bobs worth is Do your homework, take the extra time and see the sights properly without rushing. Many people have regrets after a trip because they rushed and spent the whole time on the road. RELAX and ENJOY, Quality time is good time.

that would be long days especialy with mrs and the kids and ya wont get to stop and see much.
we went from midura up to clifton hills station across simpson desert and back to birdsville and from birdville to inaminca across to camrons corner and back to mildura via tibboobura, broken hill and back to mildura in 11 days and some of that trip was very long days. the best part of the trip was birdville to inaminka and some via the old stresleki track to mery mert station and on to carons corner tibboorburra. fantastic part of the trip.

Thanks for advise guys. I appreciate the tips and place of interest. I might have to organise a trip like yours, Fozzee63. sounds like you covered some ground. If you did it in 11 days I might push it out to an even 14. Probably won't be able to go for a little while though.
