ok thinking of having a hayman type put on the front of the 80, to hitch my winch on that way i can use it on the front or rear of my 4by and store it when not needed, but it would mean that i will have the hitch hanging out the front of my roo bar so would it be illegal or not and would the winch be to heavy to do it with, any help with pros and cons would be greatly appreciated

Probably best to call hayman reece & see if they have a bar that can be mounted to the front of a vehicle. I know most trucks need a different bar fir their specific model. Pretty sure they wouldn't have off the shelf bars for the front of trucks. They should be able to tell you if it is leagal or can be blue plated for onroad. You might need something made special & rated to your vehicle... probably cheaper to just get 2 winches & mount front & rear, lol.

What if you just weld a receiver hitch INTO your bullbar so that it doesn't protrude, have seen plenty of setups similar to that so shouldn't be too hard.

I Agree with Grey ghost on my 80 series i made a custom winch mount because of my Alloy Bar so i just notched a section out and welded a receiver on to my winch mount, i put mine just below the fair lead on the winch which actually sticks out More than the receiver and keep the tongue in the back, main reason for mine was for launching & recovering my boat off the beach so i can use my vehicles winch, but also acts as a very strong recovery point on the front of the vehicle.

I know that when my towbar protruded from the front of my 60series, I was told it was illeagal(in QLD). I would imagine that you could make the receiver so that it does not protrude, and this would not be a problem

In NSW you must get an Engineer's certificate for it unless you can take it off easy and leave no exposed corners. Something like a reece fitting would be a good idea but the mods to your bar for that would require and engineer's certificate. What can put a damper on it too is the age of the car, if you have crumble zones that can make it harder to pass.
Gotta Keep it legal! If not why do you pay for your insurance?

Sorry my reply is almost 3 months after the question but there wasn't much advice left and thought it could be used by others.

Being 3 months later how did you go?

I have one on the front of my GQ, most handy thing on it for mooving caravan or boat. Legal here in SA as long as it doesnt pretude beyond the most forward part of bull bar a copper told me.:)

I'm not 100% sure but that would be the main legality ie;protruding from the front of the vehicle. Rod
holders are illegal in most states as they stick out from the bullbar, so a hitch receiver sitting flush with
the bar would most likely be fine.
You need to look at the Vic website regarding vehicle mods etc to be certain, do not take anything you read on the web as gospel!!
