Six vehicles arrived at McKenzie Reserve Yarra Glen nice and early Saturday morning & after the introductions & a quick trip pre brief, we headed off at 8.30am. Taking part were;
ATOWEN - Anthony & his mate Leon in the Challenger
CTRX - Bill & his family in the Landcruiser
TRITON05 - Chris & young daughter & mate, Adrian in a Triton
BLUEPIG - Mal & Michelle in the Triton
BLAKNAV - Scott in his Navara
And yours truely.

1st track of the day was Rocky Track & after airing down, all vehicles negotiated the 1st section without any issues...:D

After completing the section of Rocky, with Scott glad he had fitted his bash plates, we headed onto Downies Spur Track. Alot of work has been done on this track & it presented no problems & arriving at the one bog hole we came across another group of 4wders. One of their group had attempted the bog hole & required winching so all of us decided to give it a 'big miss'...:) A guy in a Rangie was hoping to find another one along the way & I suggested he make his way to a little track off Lukes Creek, as this was where we were heading. I didnt think any of our group would be interested in giving the bog hole a crack & we would all take the newly formed bypass track. Problem was the bypass track was totally different to what it was a few weeks ago, so after numerous attempts I finally got through with a few others deciding to take a very narrow path beside the bog hole. Bill decided he would give the bog hole a crack without any success & was snatched out after a little water entering the 'cruiser'. He then proceeded onto the 'bypass track' but had to winch to get over the 1st section. Anthony & Scott both hit this section at a fair rate of knots with the nudge bar of the Challenger in a slightly different position from original... The other group arrived & the Rangie attempted the boghole, as he thought he would get through as he was on 35's....

We then made our way to Pines Track where there was a small bog hole that all drove through then we headed onto Martins Track & stopped for a lunch break.

We then made our way to Steep Track.. Abtly named as it is steep & very rocky. We all headed up with a few saying they had just lost 10k of life from their muddie tyres then Michelle was on the radio saying Scott (Blaknav) had a major issue & was going nowhere... Those of us who were ahead made our way back to find Scott stuck in a fairly precarious position with what seemed like a blown front diff....:(. After him getting back down onto Marginal Rd the day looked like finishing early.

The Nav was drivable in 2wd & with Chris deciding to head home back to Sunbury following Scott, the rest of us decided to continue on to Aeroplane Track. The 1st part of this track was very easy, then it all changed with big ruts & track somewhat slippery in places. We came across a Patrol that was going nowhere & after snatching him, he tried a different line & 'snatch No.2' was required.

We then made our way to the infamous 'Cockpit/Blowhard Tracks' Both of these used to be extreme but after they were both graded, they werent too bad. They are both now becoming their 'old selfs' making them very interesting in the wet... Both tracks required all the vehicles to as Anthony said; 'To be valve bouncing' to get up. Mal required a snatch on Blowhard; but at least it was another Mitsubishi who helped him out...:D

Thanks for all those who took part; great people & plan is to get out again soon....:)

Cheers

Hi Guys,

Great to meet a few new faces and thanks for leading a sensational trip Alan as said before its great following a trip where the tracks are know and good knowledge of the areas, we all had a absolute ripper of a time, my cousin is now looking at getting a 80 series he loved it that much.
Sorry to the guy in the Nissan who done his front end diff.

I can now say iv done Rocky :) well that first past at least going via the by pass track jeeze it looked challenging alot of winching to get up some of those rock faces.

Hands down though the late afternoon tracks took the cake. cockpit, blowhard, aeroplane were fantastic tracks just full boost 2nd gear and gave it all it had to get up a few of those tracks with wheel spin kinda like a washing machine getting bounced around everywhere was very fun, all i said to the crew was hold on we aint stopping for nothing. Love to head back out there again.

I kinda felt good that disco got bogged with 35's :) bit of carpet cleaning is required in the front drivers side no big deal at all.

I have some video i'll try and get down from the camera and onto the forums sometime this week, but for now here are a few photos.

Here are some photos

Just a simple question,would the 32s rub with out a 2 inch lift.On a Triton?

If its a new triton then you will be fine, as this is what i was running, i now have 2" and 33s (255/85/16) althought you could also run this tyre size with no lift

looks like a great day out! i havent been out that way since about 2006 cause i sold my 4b now i have one again and after seeing these photos i cant wait to head back. Cheers guys :)

If its an MK model, older body shape, then the 32"s will be VERY close to the front of the front wheel arches if they don't already rub. I tried to bulldoze an erosion run off the other week and pushed the front bumper corner into my 31" muddies, bloody noisy as all get out!
