Easter weekend looking at a day drive to do a couple of huts, looking at getting from Bunroy hut to the Dunstan logging huts.

HEMA has all the tracks as easy other than the section around Mt Baldy, no matter which way you go it has it marked as D. No wish for a day of recoveries, damage and winching.

Anyone know what the tracks are like or an alternative route between the two sites?

A little confused with the huts you mention, Dunstan Logging huts were destroyed in 2003 fire. Spent many camping trips around the Bunroy area and unaware of any hut there. Are you staying close by and just looking for a day trip or plan on camping in that area?

Stopping at a property up at corryong over easter looking for a day drive, google maps had a hut at bunroy, didnt realise the fires had taken the logging huts.

    Open to suggestions

Get the Rooftop map Corryong - Omeo - Thredbo Adventure map. Will post a few options this evening. Have you been to Mt Pinnibar?

Mt Pinnibar and Mt Gibbo are great drives, was up there 2 weeks ago. Davies plain hut is worth a look if you haven’t been there before

I have done few tracks marked D up through there. Defiantly will not need recovery , winching or will get damage. Don't know whey Pinnibar track is rated D , I did that in high 4WD going up with ease. Down different story so I don't use brakes , Really smooth track.

Then we went Shady Creek Upper Track on way out and that's rated D as well , was no problem.
I think Hema rates tracks D when there just steep and slow going from what I have seen. Do have to pick right lines in lot of places but that's just natural.

I have not done a X rated one yet from Hema , past Davies Hut it's marked as X. I don't have winch yet so I stay away from them just in case.

Cheers for that, two cars and there isn't much we haven't tackled between us but being a new area you look to existing resources to get a handle on things...asume with the HEMA there is a bit of arse covering and the whole aftermarket need 35 and diff locks to get out there and see marketing movement.

    Might suggest pinnibar

Here's my favourite way to get to Pinnibar. Leave Corryong and go up the Nariel valley, take scrubby creek track to Lind Lodge (aka ski hut) backtrack a bit to ski hut track, then right onto Six Mile Ridge track, this gets steep at the end. Onto Wheelers Creek hut, then along Cattlemans track, turn right onto Shady Creek Upper track to Mt Pinnibar.

From there you can go Pinnibar track to Tom Groggin and then a scenic bitumen drive back to Corryong. Or go back Dead Finish track, Mt Elliot Ridge track is good with a excellent view over Corryong at the end. The only place I've used winch is on Blue Gum Ridge track down near the Murray river.
Whichever way you go you'll have a bit of fun.

Did this run on sunday, ran out of daylight for getting to the mt elliot lookout but we had been up the day before. Mates 17 year old drove most of it, first time behind the wheel...awesome trip out and highly recommend Maurie at poets paradise for anyone looking for a camp in the area
