Jeez that is a shame Roger, it would have been a great keepsake. Just think, brought over to Australia 60 years ago! Did you ever get to fire it?

However, I am now intrigued as to whether I did in fact see a Spencer of similar vintage in the movie "Soldier Blue". I guess I will track it down somewhere and watch it again, been years since I last saw it!

dno67 got it also!

I'll throw my hat in the ring, with it being a Spencer

Me too ,
Sometime you don't see everyday . I used to be into Martini Henry's in the pre Port Arthur days .

Much the same here, belting down and blowing a gale, not all bad though, the better half is sorting through my quarterly tax stuff while I watch utube , surf forums and drink scotch
Cheers and happy Easter lock down

You are a champion Roger! Thanks for that - it has solved my puzzle.

In fact, I was wrong in thinking I saw the Spencer in Soldier Blue - he is holding a Springfield rifle. I'm not 100% (99%) sure but it is most likely in .45/70 calibre (an all-time favorite of mine).

Now I'm constantly trying to recall which Western I saw the Spencer. It will come - eventually.

Got to love Spooner's photo too.

Apologies to everyone for hijacking this thread with all the posts re: rifles etc - not everyone's "cup of tea" - once again, apologies.

When I got married fifty three years ago the missus (girl friend then) bought lots of Manchester for our life together. Onkaparinga woollen blankets, sheets, doonas, pillows, etc. and we still have them today. I also bought woollen blankets from Army Surplus stores and carry about six in my Troopy all the time. A couple of years ago I came across a young bloke riding a bike from Sydney, when I was camping at Holbrook. he was in a small tent , no cover, freezing cold, so I gave him one of my woollen army blanket which belonged to my Mum. She stitched her name in it. I told him to keep it as he was heading for the Murray to trade his bike on a canoe to row to the end of the Murray river. He was struggling with his life and was trying to reinvent himself. I Never saw him again and I am sure at least he was warm in his tent after that. :D.

Yeah. I agree. I felt guilty for hijacking this thread also. Don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable about firearms, however the history is incredible. Thanks Poppa.

Good morning everybody. A bit fresh this morning isn't it? I might turn the heater dial up a bit.

LOL I wonder how many people are still outside in their tent. In Victoria, I'd be very surprised if 5% were still slogging it out.

Camping in the backyard in the weather like this ( Melbourne) is like camping in the snow. It seems like a fantastic idea until you actually start doing it. Then the quicker it's over the better.
