Well as i'm sure you are aware the planet is in lockdown due to CoronaVirus (Covid-19,) With families #togetherathome answering Australia’s #stayathomechallenge to #quarantineandchill.
Now is the ideal time to go camping!
Called the Great Australian Backyard Campout the idea is to set your tent up in your back yard or wherever you have the space, pack some food, games (and beer of course) and join in the activities on Facebook.
The night was full of entertainment from musicians to well known 4WD locals dropping in to say g'day.
I've never camped in my backyard before but in times like these a quick get away in the back yard has given my family something to focus on other than this bloody virus.
Thanks to Rowen Burton for organising the event and check out Western Offroading Mates on facebook.

our street is having an easter driveway campout . 7 of us all living next to each other are putting our camper trailer or vans in the driveway and each putting a firepit out on the verge and doing the best we can do while staying apart :)

Please take a few photos of the event and post them here! I'm sure plenty of us would like to see them.

Been waiting for some good weather???? to chuck my camp up in the back yard, which has lots of stuff going back into the 70's and then post up some pics.
Last three days we had a total of around 125 mls , so might give it another couple of days to dry out a little. :D.

Gotta smile. Our camper has been up for a week in the driveway and spent the first four nights camped in it with my son. He's very pissed off about not being able to go camping and fishing (and 4wding), so demanded the next best thing. He's turned it into his classroom. Makes his mum, sister and I grin when we go out and he's taking a break with a cup of tea in his hand, checking out the birds in the trees. Our pace has certainly slowed down around here ...

Good job Rog. Some of those things look familiar. I was expecting an auto tent. I remember as a little kid all six of us squashed in (I think it was an 12' x 12') auto tent with very similar stuff to what you've dragged out there - even that wood fired BBQ looks familiar! And I remember those stretchers too.

Awesome mate. Amazing all that stuff has survived. Especially the stretchers! Your dad was obviously better at controlling kids on them than ours!! That mattock is an adze. Woodworking tool for smoothing slabs, posts etc.
enjoyed watching, really took me back to trips with my dad & brothers.:)

Yeah that mattock came in handy for like clearing away some grass etc. but more important was for digging a trench around the tent so rain would not run inside as we had no floors attached. We would just lay out our stretchers on the ground inside the tent. Remember one time we hurriedly put the old auto tent up in the dark to go spotting on a property and then afterwards got back into our stretchers. Brother said he saw something on the inside walls in the dark. It was about a thousand bull ants because we set the tent up right next door to their nest

Not sure where my fifty year old auto tent went. Kids were always borrowing it to go away with their mates and one day it disappeared?
This was one of my Brothers and my two sons who went camping on the Murray. Bit more comfortable than sleeping under a tarp. Notice the school student single chair in the middle of the pic, we certainly was a bit plush that trip.:D.

Roger, great video and an even greater story. Don't want to steal your thread but I love anything to do with those auto tents.

I still use one frequently. Well, OK frequently might be a bit of poetic licence, how about once or twice a year. It is a bit like Grandpa's axe - handle replaced 26 times and axe-head replaced 4 times.....

Original canvas roof repaired countless times, new sidewalls but original wooden poles.

Great bit of kit especially in wet, cold weather. One could say, "they don't make 'em like they used to".

I have to say Roger, I like my new wizz-bang new stretcher more than the stretcher you showed. Sometimes the new stuff is much, much better.

Make a couple more videos like that and you will be giving Ronny a run for his money!

Like to hear yours and everyone's stories, especially about the old days. Funny that, I think I still have quite a few old wooden tent poles under the house. The axe handle in the video was repaired sometimes, replaced other times. Don't know how many times I threw it in a fire to burn the broken handle off. Problem was that the kids would get it stuck into a log and instead off pushing down on the end of the handle to release it they would heave and heave it up, until it broke. Ah! city kids :D.
