My wife and I have just returned from a trip into central Australia. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip, no problems to speak of, apart from doing my back in lifting the ice box while returning via the Flinders! Our enjoyment of the trip was heightened as a result of meeting up at Bourke with a couple who I first made contact with on this site. We travelled to gether for over a week and found them great company and very helpful with advice for relative novices such as my wife and I.
Sites like this are very important for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which as we discovered is getting people together and generating goodwill.
May this spirit long continue!

Thanks to 4x4Earth

Grumpy,
Bill and Olga Bray, who I understand are comparative newcomers to the site as I am. We separated at Birdsville as Bill and Olga were to cross the Simpson en route to WA for the wildflower season. We headed for home down the Birdsville track. On the way home we took a flight from Marree over Lake Eyre, which is an amazing sight, notwithstanding that the water is in full retreat.
I originally posted on 4x4Earth that we were heading to Birdsville and seeking company. Bill responded by saying that they could accompany us for part of their intended trip. They are streets ahead of us in terms of skill and knowledge and we were very thankful to them for passing on to us some of their experience.

Bill and Olga are top people arn't they? They came to middle earth with us and had a great time. Bill was like a kid in a lolly shop on stockton beach.

That's why you have to empty it every night

Well at least that's what the boss is told

Enjoy your time on the site and on the tracks

It's a strange thing. We spend most of our lives telliing our kids not to go out with strangers, but we often find ourselves organising trips out in the bush with people we have only spoken to by typing and never actually met. Haven't found any bad ones on trips yet!
O'Tooles trip last year here in Vic, 35+ cars turned up, lots of them had never met anyone else before then. We spent 4 great days with some of them.

Exactly right Nick!! O'Tooles last year was a great example of that as was Middle Earth this year. As Yobbo said, Bill and Olga both attended the meetup and i don't think I've seen a more excited person on sand since that kid on Bay Watch got mouth to mouth from Pammy!! I spoke with Bill for quite a while about the places they've been and still want to go. It's good to see there's NO slowing down!!

Well done Cameron on getting out there!
