I believe that swags are excellent for those trips with the boys but in my situation, when you have the wife and dog and want to store things and have room to move etc etc etc, its a tent for me. Not quite a camper trailer but hey! still comfy.

I used to take a swag everywhere. Nowdays, I have converted to using the tent. A lot easier in wet wheather and easier to get dressed etc. Swags take up a lot of room.

And if you are by yourself a permanent bed in the cab is the go. You can stop for a rest anywhere and be snoring within minutes! Also good in the rain and wind, and certainly keeps the bugs out!

Of course if you have got a long wheel base truck, there is plenty of room to make a full length double bed in the back. The first fourby I was looking at, a 60 series cruizer, had the double bed raised up off the floor. So there was lots of storage space under the bed.

Swags a now very cheap (around $100) so they make a good option if you get kicked out of the tent because you snore!

Swags are sweet to sleep in, easy to set up, pack up but they are so friggen huge. They look great on the tray of a truck, if there is nothing else there, but otherwise a tent. It has more advantages and packs up nice and small - even a five manner is 1/3 the size of most swags.

I've got 2 tents and a swag. If i go on my own or with mates for only 1 or 2 nights its the swag. If its with the family (wife, 2 kids) its the tent. Also if we are staying anywhere for longer than a couple of nights with the mates then i will take the tent for the comfort factor. I don't fancy sleeping on a 50mm "mattress" for too long.

Being a girl and all and occasionally camping on my own l do prefer to have 4 walls around me...theres something about creepy crawlies walking close by that doesn't make me feel so comfortable.:D

Yeah, I think I'd get a big claustrophobic in a swag! I have a bed set up in the back of my 4Runner wagon, plenty of head & leg room, along with a dog bed, and all my gear. But still, I have a tent for the occasion that there's more than one of me (besides little Mr 4-Paws here!)

depends on the circumstance, and if im on my own or with the family. If i was on my own and changing campsite every day then a swag. If im with the family or setting up a base camp for a extended stay then a tent. Cant vote for both

don't forget a swag is an all-in-one, whereas a tent, packed up, excludes those things in the swag like a mattress, pillow, dooner or sleeping bag, probably a blanket etc. If you took all that out a swag is a canvass groundsheet - packs up very light. You still have to bring that other stuff with a tent. I use a self inflating mattress in the swag, which rolls up in the swag to save space. But it's horses for courses - tents have their place for sure. In fact I stow a small 2 man in the space case just in case it rains or the centerpedes are too big!
