WideBay Burnett 4x4 Club Inc. Seeing Eye Dog Australia Charity Collection “Dog Run”
The Wide Bay Burnett 4x4 Club is holding it’s first annual “Dog Run” The dog run has been developed to assist the Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA) in raising much needed funds. SEDA is the only national trainer and provider of Seeing Eye Dogs in Australia and has been helping people who are blind or vision impaired for 48 years. These unique dogs provide the ‘gift of independence’ and freedom in day-to-day life by becoming the ‘eyes’ of a person who is blind or vision impaired. There are approximately 480,000 Australians aged over 40 with considerable vision impairment and 50,000 of these people are legally blind. SEDA, do not receive any government funding so their work depends solely on the goodwill and support of our volunteers and donors like Wide Bay Burnett 4x4 Club to provide Seeing Eye Dog’s. It costs $30,000 and takes up to two years of intensive training for “one” Seeing Eye Dog to graduate and not all of them pass. In fact, the pass rate is only 65 per cent due to the high safety standards SEDA places on their dog’s. Seeing Eye Dogs Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation dependent on the generous support of sponsors and donors. SEDA has established a dedicated phone line – 1800 PUPPYS (1800 787 797) – for people who wish to sponsor a puppy or make a donation. Your support will give a person who is blind or vision impaired the greatest gift they could receive – independence for life.
For further information, you can call SEDA direct on 07 3255 2877 Wide Bay Burnett 4x4 club developed it’s relationship with SEDA almost three years ago and contribute to SEDA through Forby, our donation collection dog (Box). We decided that in order to raise both awareness and funds, we would need to seek assistance from the community and our members. The Wide Bay Burnett 4x4 Club’s “Dog Run” is designed to do just that. We are encouraging likeminded people who enjoy Four Wheel Driving to participate. The run itself will see us travelling throughout the Wide Bay Burnett region collecting donation and selling SEDA Merchandise to the community of townships along the way.
