Hi just woundering what size tire would you go for with a stock D40 on the standard D40 rims.

And what brand/style for a Newby to the 4wd scene, Lots of steep inclines and descents on rocky/clay and can perform alrigh in mud is what i have and will be doing. The tires wont be my everyday tire for long maybe only 4 months, till i can afford 22in chromies for street use?

Standard size tire is 255/70R16

And a tire shop was saying that 15in sunnies wont fit over my brakes there not that big i thought. Can any1 confirm this?

Thanks Matt

Hey Matt,
I run M/T MTZ's 265/75/16 on a second set of steel rims for 4x4 ing on my D40 with standard suspension. I doubt you would get anything bigger under there without a lift. As for 15" rims you probably won't be able to get any that suit the stud pattern of the Navara... I could be wrong though.

They are correct i have looked into it as well and 15inch rims will not fit over the brakes. as for size legaly (in Qld other states may be different) u can only go 15mm bigger that standard.

I run 265/75/16 big horns on a second set of stx alloys for when i hit the tracks.
They will suit your needs well and give you a little more height, might be a touch above legal though.Check it out. I had no scrubbing from them with the stock suspension, although i have a 2 inch lift now.

I'm not sure if you can link other forums here or not,but you will find lots of D40 info here.

My speedo changed by about 5 kph, almost brought it into line with the gps.
The warranty had finished on my ute when i did the lift but if yours is still under warranty and you want to do some mods, give your list to Nissan and get them to ok it and then sign it.Otherwise,If the sh@t hits the fan later down the track they will try to squirm there way out of it.
I don't know if you have fitted underbody guards yet,but i strongly recomend it.
I have sump and gearbox guards and they have copped a flogging,be stuck in the bush with a holed sump without them.
I know a guy that gets servicing done at Berwick and he says they are ok.
I get most of mine done at Ferntree gully, they are ok also.
Watch out for the peninsula ones :(

Yeah i need to get some under body protection soon i was playing in my mates uncles block of land on satdy to test my tyres and tyres go good but ground clearance not good and will need something to deal with that.
When i was washing it after playing i noticed my bash plate was a bit bent not badly just slightly so yeah need to either make my own or buy one but not getting bull bar for a while any advise on body guards.

The standard plate resembles a coke can, there are a few around,TJM,Brown Davis,Tosca industries, possibly a few others.I'm not sure if they all make them for a King cab.
I bought the TJM plates for my STX and they seem to do ok.

Hi, I'm just about to buy a 2013 navara d40
And I'm wondering what the biggest A/T tyre I would fit on it without doing a lift, and does anyone have any pictures.
Cheers, Tom
