well, the old McCulloch chainsaw has had the gong and i need a new saw to take with me when going bush in the cruiser. i have steered away from those cheap brands and decided to go with either a little stihl or husqi. these are the ones i am interested in:

>Stihl MS 180 Mini Boss
>Husqvarna 235
>Husqvarna 240 e-series

has anyone used any of these saws? any pros and cons? what are your thaughts!

Hi bainsy

I was just about to post the same question, so I'm interested in the outcome. I need one for work and play.

Hi Guys there is another thread which talks about chainsaws in here somewhere, I have a husky 570, heaps of grunt, the secret to a good saw is the blade, must be sharpened correctly, husky's seem to be taking over from still a bit, still a personal choice though.

yeah i have seen that thread. the one asking what brands people use and how they stow it? Im only interested in these 3 saws. id love a big saw but i can only afford a small one at the moment and i havn't got much room to put it in the cruiser. i think these 3 saws are a happy medium between quality, power and compactness.

hey there,
to be honest -
this two brands play in the same class... so no worries go with your personal impressions....
I would take both of them... ;)

Both a very good brands. I've had a fair bit of experience with the Sthill saws and find them to be a good saw to use. Those that I know that use Huskies are really happy with then and wouldn't swap them.

I have had both .... both are the pick of the saws on the market today :D but as has been mentioned some people are brand loyal  but In MY view, Husky have the edge over Stihl now, I have 2 saws now and both Huski, I sold my Stihl ;);)

they are both made at the same line just differnt branding working in the tree industrie we always use the huskie as they have air injection so rev harder easy but as said before chain sharpening is a must and gressing the runner wheel on the end of the bar every tank you fill they have a little hole on side of the bar for it

I'd say go with the best price unless one seems better to you than others. In reality, you are not going to need to use it every day as they are designed to be used and none of them will be like my old Homelite that I replaced with a Stihl (see the other thread) that needed a full strip down, carby cleanout and service every time I pulled it out....

I have had both over the years but take the Huski any time. My huski is about 15 years old now, had one service in its life and still starts first pull. My old Stihl would never go properly from the day it was born. Maybe i just had a bad experience. I think you may be a little confused Road Rat. These days the McCulloch is made by Huski now but Stihl is "Stihl" a stand alone company.

Just a quick one Bainsy, how big does a tree have to be before you actually need to cut it off a track? :D

I got a husky - it's a great saw.

I rather like Grumpy's saw at 7am after i have been kept up most of the night by some real 'owner operators'

I got a $149 38cc green Aldi special - awesome. Even the guys in the chainsaw shop thought it was awesome. And I got a $119, yes $119 55cc special from Bunnings. Its better than the Aldi saw - just.
I've had the Aldi saw years, still going.
Back to the debate, I had a Stihl 010 (38cc) and a Husky 182 (80cc). The Husky was awesome, so much grunt. The Stihl is goo when you up trees, so is the Aldi saw, they are real small and light.
For mine, you can't go by either a Stihl or a Husky, just what you can afford.

just an update on this thread. i just took ownership of a brand new stihl 250 wood boss. :D

i was just about to post and say dont bother with a mini boss as there really dont have any guts, and reconmend a work boss 250, iv got one there very good, good size to take any where and plently of grunt iv sawed plenty of red wood no dramas. and out 4x4ing iv had to chop a tree fallen on a track 700mm diamater and it did it no problems. the one any only pain is haveing to clean the bar after every few uses as the oil feed in the bar clogs very easy, but its a small price to pay when you can cut wood with such little effort, a mates got a huski and its falling to bits every time it comes out it just causes more dramas than its worth ..

When you read so many differing opinions about these saws it's hard to form a good idea of what to buy. Bit like 4WD tyres among other things. Some say "great, wouldn't own anything else" while others say the opposite
