Static in UHF Radio

Hi All,
I have just perchased a GME 3220 UHF with barnd new areial and lead. It trasnmits and receives very well, but when I start the motor I get a lot of static on rececving of transmission. I have earthed everything as much as possible. I do run a petrol engine, could it be the supresser on the alternator? Or could it be anything to do with spark.

Thank you,

You can get a supressor to go inline with the power cable that works well. Should be able to get it at Dick Smiths or Jaycar.

Make sure that all the connections are secure and tight, could be something as simple as that.

Static noise on the 2way radio will be a poor earth on the antenna or lack of a suppressor on the power cable. If the antenna is mounted to a bullbar, run a earth cable to the bullbar

What sort of car is it fitted to? I know Jackaroo's and rodeos have a problem with receiving interfeance from their injectors.
My uhf had such interferance. It would only go away when the other car was next to you or my engine was off.
The a/e was on the bullbar, and direct sheilded power form the battery. I also tried differant a/e's and area's of mounting, supressors, filters all with no success.
However, I recently put in new base and leads that run to the top/back of the cab (duel cab) on my rodeo.
The noise has gone to a case of 90%. both am and uhf are clear unless the other person is near out of range.
