Some "quieter" Barrington Tops camping

Hiya folks, my new(to me) troopy is up and going so I am planning to head out to Barrington Tops for a few days of relaxing away from work, computers and clueless people who use computers.

I know it says what the camping spots are in one of the books I got (short trips out of sydney dealio) but I'd like to hear about camping places/spots that are likely to have least amounts of people in them.

I have low range gearing and lockers so getting to some of the more interesting places will be a good challenge.

So far Junction pools and Ferndale park look like good basecamp spots

PS: private messages are OK too in case the spot is just too good :D:D

Mate we held 'Middle Earth' at Ferndale in July this year. Nice place, Nice people. Might get a bit crowded over the brake though.

Cheers

I agree, Ferndale Park was great, but it would be busy over Xmas. You would need to find somewhere a lot more remote.

Pol blue, Devils hole, Horse swamp, Gummy falls & junction pools are all within the park with access ranging from easy to meduim and are nice camping area's - most with drop toilets.
The devils hole road can be pretty challenging depending on what condition it's in (lift lockers and a friend with winch at times)
If you wish to stay out of the park then I highly recommend Woko national Park camping area as it is really nice, good toilets and fire pits - reasonable proximity to Barrington town for supplies (about 30klm) and has a great river alongside for cooling off as it gets very hot up there this time of year.
Enjoy your trip and if you need more info just ask..

.

Devils Hole is 2wd access in all weather. Gummy Falls is much harder to get into.

Most of these areas will have no one there midweek out out School Holidays

Junction Pools were quite empty and even had the envelopes for camping money (so useful!) and that's where I ended up staying. Pity about the rain, fog and the insane amount of bushflies :(

The road from the main forest road to the pools can be closed because of weather but i don't think it's camper trailer friendly at all. It's a 12.5km run with some deep ruts and a shiteload of rocks and stones on the trail. With a smallish offroad 2 wheel trailer and decent clearance, maybe yes.

Having said that the site is a walk-in campsite, you have to park and camp on the grassy downhill slope. The river and pools had a lot of water in them when I was there but beware the god damn bushflies, I hope you're packing bushman repellent.

Thanks RKD, my camping trailor is a full off road model and I would take it anywhere my Hilux would go , but its no use getting it there if i cant set it up. Thyose bushflies dont sound much fun anyway!
