Well I traded in my old Great Wall on a new 16.5 Discovery 4 sdv6 Graphite, along with a few extras. I must say it is a beautiful vehicle to drive. Took it out to Toolangi last weekend and what a lovely car to drive. In fact all you do is basically steer. Mind you I could have bought 4 Great Walls for the price of this one! I now just need to mod this one up. I am sure I am not the only owner of a D4 on here. Hopefully once I have all the "necessary" protection attached, I will take it into more serious areas. But it was just lovely and quiet. I do miss my old car as it had character and it went everywhere but it would not tow and this thing certainly will.

If your not on Aulro get onto it and have a read, heaps of info that could save a lot of unnecessary pain, there is also a UK discovery forum that is apparently very good for the D3 and D4 but I have never looked at it. I would also suggest you have a look into doing "the land rover experience" weekend which is put on by one of the Aulro members which will teach you how to get the most out of a very high tech piece of equipment and also a lot of get out of jail cards if/when a sensor puts it into limp mode
Congrates on the new purchase :)

You now ride on a cloud , you will rarely if ever spill your coffee while driving (only if a Toyota hits you). You will be in a world of your own . you wont care about how long your driving for just as long as your in your d4. You will cop some flack and that you will wipe off like water from a ducks back From those Toyota god worshipers bastards but you will over take them , arrive refreshed and you will not wipe the smile off your face. These guys are your cheapest genuine and aftermarket parts supplier . Unlike most others that over quote on freight . Paddocks do the sale in 2 parts . You pay for the parts. they then pack and give you an actual freight charge then you pay freight http://www.paddockspares.com/

I havent taken any photos yet but will tomorrow. It has been a quantum leap from a great wall, but I am the last one to knock the GW. It did everything I asked of it. I read the cane on the canning post and think how lucky was I. I have done the canning twice, this june/july being the most recent. I was amazed how many cars had issues. We did it in 11 days as son was on a tight schedule, so the car got really hammered, but other than a broken shocker amount which I welded up all ok. If I can get the same reliability ( can you mention reliability and LR in the same post?) I will be happy. I just hope who ever gets my old car knows whats in it as it was heavily modified mechanically. But the LR is certainly a quatum leap.

I want to do the LR experience day but they are all booked out for 2016. I am sure they will be of benefit as the electronics on this car are amazing. The thing I really like is the ability to lower the suspension to get in and out... great for old buggers like me.

I have joined aulro. Already got on order some under car protection bits for the vunerable parts, dual battery set up, concealed winch mount bar, and lams for overriding the suspension height when you get over a certain speed. Understand it also allows you to increase lift beyond the normal range for extreme cases. Then I might be prepared to take it on some more serious trips.

Try not to do that all the time as you hasten the demise of the air compressor (really a consumable item) - the desiccant that takes the moisture out of the air that runs the suspension cloggs up (about 80,000km) and can kill the air compressor - the less you use it the longer it lasts.

To help though - when you get LLAMs fitted you will be able to run on the highway at -20mm height all the time so it is easier to get in an out. When you do have to use the height - have a think about what height you want and leave it there for as long as possible. My car has now done 120,000km and the compressor is still running great. -20mm all the time and the only time it goes to access height is to let my old mum to get in. Straight to offroad height as soon as I head offroad even if not needed and leave it there - only higher for the really rough stuff.

They are a great vehicle - good luck with it.

The mods have started. Today I fitted LLAMS, tow pro, Compressor bash plate, and dual battery system, rear accessory plug and anderson plug for van from traxide. Started at 9.00am and finished at 5pm. Tomorrow off to get some Maxxis AT 980. All I need now is the hidden mounting plate for the winch and I am ready to tackle the tracks with full confidence. LLams is the best think ever for an old bugger like me. Now I can drive around with the suspension lowered all the time and it just makes getting in and out like a normal car. Plus when need to it can lift 50mm above extended height. Bloody amazing. Thing is like its on steroids!!

No worries discomatt. I am trying to get to a landrover experience day as I understand they go through all the ways to set all the electronics for 4WDing. Sure I could probably figure it out myself, but I would rather get up a hill 1st time rather than show my ignorance in how to drive the car to the max. As I think you live out north of Melbourne, next time I am heading out to Kinglake or Strath Creek, will pm you.

I've seen very experienced drivers but new to Land Rovers get caught with the wrong settings in D3's and D4's and get stuck where they shouldn't. Once you are familiar with how to drive it they are great.
