Hi all. This is my first post after picking up a 2012 Navara twin cab RX.
I am wanting to for a snorkel to this but hafe heard that the Thai built models are problematic for this. Does anyone have one they have done or seen?

They are all problematic unless you know what you are doing.
Drill multiple large holes in body panels, move coolant overflow, modify the airbox etc, this is whats needed for most installs.
Thats why many people just get a 4x4 shop to install it for them.

They come with instructions & watch as many youtubes as possible to get to know what to do before you attempt it.

Otherwise pay someone to do the job for you, thats the alternative.

I installed a snorkel on my Prado. One of the most nerve racking experiences I’ve ever had drilling so many holes in my car. When the holes were drilled and and thankfully everything lined up it was a piece of cake. No need to move anything, no need to modify. Just went together with a shit load of sikaflex.

I've done a couple now and they both went well. Just got to check and re-check the template is positioned correctly. I bought a little air nibbler from Bunnings to cut the large hole on my LC. That was a great purchase, you have great control and they cut so cleanly.

My sons mate did his on his Hilux but ordered the wrong model. Didn’t realise until he had cut all the holes
Returned the one he bought for the correct one which had a different hole layout but fortunately the wrong holes were covered when all fitted up

I went and bought the correct sized hole saw (130mm odd?) which was fun to hang on to. The main source of my trauma was slicing my hands and arms up working blind behind the inner guards and then getting sikaflex everywhere which I hate. It was a stupid design for a snorkel, the new ones look better.

The last two I did I just used tin snips and cut it in the same fashion as for a round downpipe in a gutter. Works great and there is no heat or swarf issues

we have fitted a few
One with snips one with hole saw, both have there pros and cons and both can be good if you take your time.

we had the “pros” do the 200 when we got the Bull bar and suspension done, they did a much rougher job that we had done on the previous 2 4wds.

fairly std really why would they care you can’t see it unless you take it off and it’s just a quick cash maker

let’s be honest not a very technical job, they supply a template and you drill holes.

hardest thing being trying obtaining the part numbers to order new wheel guard clips as you always brake a few

This is why I try to do as much on my own vehicle as possible.
Even if I dont know how, I will learn what to do & Im pretty confident I will take more care & attention to detail than 90% of most shops.

Im actually fitting my Safari snorkel on Friday to my MN Triton, got all I need, watched a few youtubes etc & while its something I've never done before I will stick my above statement.

Get a better finished job & save $450 in the process!
