A lot of people see the strap as the greatest fix it for all recovery work. It's not. The idea in any recovery is to take a breath, and assess the situation. Then decide what course of action to take. Sometimes, when a vehicle is hung up on something you may have to jack it up off the problem. In this situation a strap my do more harm than good. I saw a spring hanger nearly ripped out once because the strap owner was too quick on the trigger, or the strap. Sometimes, a winch is a better idea, and very often a long handled shovel is all you need.
