An often overlooked item is the overflow hose from rad to the overflow bottle. If its got a slight leak, a pin hole, loose fit at terminations, it cant suck back, and only dumps water out. Same with the down pipe in the bottle. You can usually tell because the bottle will tend to be overfull.
