Going to organize a trip across the simpson desert, last year i organized a trip early in the season (APRIL) but had to cancell becouse of the flooding, I still went up that way and han a bit of a play there. But this year will cross, so am planing in August, there should be no water.
I plan to keep the trip to about a max. 17 days from Melbourne, just for the reason i am having to much time off work.
I will post more details later. (Itinary and def. dates)
All that is set is it will be in August.
So if there is anyone else that wants to do the trip also, let me Know.
Make sure that if you want to come you transport is reliable and capable.
IT WILL BE AWSOME.
Cheers Paul

I'll would love to. I'll have to wait and see. Not currently working and I may not be able ot get time off with my new job when I get it.

Just got back from a trip to Northern SA / Southern NT. Passed along the edges of the Simpson and thought it would be great to do it. I was at Dalhousie Springs and was almost tempted to go out a bit further.

Hi Brad, will keep you informed, let me know if you can, becouse we will only want a limited amount of cars, there are a few maybes at this time.
Dates at this time are 6th August to the 15th August

That's going to be a rushed trip D4x4.

Each time we have done it, we have taken 14 days from Port Pirie (SA) and return.
We spend 5 days in the desert doing all tracks.

May, June & July are the best months to do the crossing, no flies and cooler weather. You shouldn't have any trouble with water. Eyre Creek only floods with good rain run-offs from the north.

Have fun, and drive safely.

Geoff.

It wont take long to get up there so should get 5 days in the Desert.
3 days up, 5 days there and 2 days to get back, Quicker than i would like, but its hard to get to much more time off. I had 3 months in the top end last year, and with a family emergancy back home , i left Seisia Cape York on Wendsday 9am and was back in Melbourne Saturday morning....now that was rushed. just drive allday and sleep. but i did have to get home with very short notice. al least i had 3 months getting up there.

If Eyre Creek does flood (Like last year) keep in mind there are two bypasses, a short one of around 5 kms to the SOUTH as well as the 30 odd km one to the North.

BTW On the French line there were a few Trailers & they had BIG PROBLEMS. (Busted Diff on one had to be winched & the rest had to snatched over nearly every big sand hill, AND THAT WAS HEADING THE EASY WAY TO THE EAST.

We , the LOOSE NUTS Group are doing the Simpson again within the first two weeks of August 2010 , basically Mildura- Broken Hill- Tibbooburra- Innaminkah- Birdsville via Walkers crossing if open if not Cordillo Downs- QAA line , French Line - Dalhousie Springs - Mt Dare , so we will be there about the same time Donx has expressed an interest in coming along with us . There are spots for a couple more in our party- If you cant get the numbers feel free to join us !

Karma with the idiots who buggered a diff towing a trailer across - they ask you not to take trailers across the Simpson as the draw bars scoop out the dunes , idiots like these will only end up closing the down the Simpson for the rest of us . TRAVEL LIGHT ,TRAVEL RIGHT !

I would love to travel with you Bushnut, but it's a bit far ahead for our planning at the moment. We end up on the Simpson every year - IT'S A MAGNET! Where are you headed for after Mt Dare?

Our Party is meeting at the Starting Point MILDURA on the 16th of July 2010, usually from there we stay the first night at the Kinchega Woolshed near the Menindee lakes -Day 2 ,travell though Broken Hill up to Tibooburra camp outside of there _ day 3 and 4 travel through Camerons corner to Innaminkah, camp down on the Cooper out of town , Have a rest day here , plenty to do, Day 5- could do Coonjie lakes this time ( all still in the planning stages ) Day 6 travell to Birdsville either via Walkers Crossing or Cordillo Downs 9 this will be governed by track conditions and closures . From then on it is the Simpson which won't be as rushed this time , will do it over 5 days or if we side track maybe 6 or 7 . after Mt. Dare we can have the option of doing lamberts centre, even Chambers Pillar if everyones time permits . Then it is down the Oodnadatta track, Flinders Ranges, Clare Valley ( so many wineries, so little time ) then Renmark then home .

I am after a passenger for this trip, to share driving, Diesel and Food costs .
