I had a chance to use my new Runva winch for the first time, whilst on the Pt Lincoln & Coffin Bay trip . There was one sand hill that was rutted out quite badly and with not having a lot of clearance and no lockers the Prado bogged down to the rails . So having Luke in the 79 in front of me , we hooked the winch up to his rear end and started the pull. The first few seconds we got some movement but then the car stopped and dug in some more. Taking my foot of the loud pedal and just letting the winch do its job, I started moving again but very slowly . After approximately 5 minutes we were free.
Now what I did incorrectly with this recovery.
First I did not dig any sand from in front of the tires at all. Never used any recovery boards , to help get out of the holes that I was in . But the winch pulled us out without a hiccup . Also I forgot to put a winch dampener on the rope. We did connect to a proper recovery point on the 79 at least. Also the recovery was completed on a single line pull as well.
So in conclusion to this I would like to give a big shout out to Runva for a great product .
