Router/modem for caravan

I have been looking for a suitable router/modem for the caravan, hopefully 12 volt, else via an inverter that one can use any sim card in.
Normally I would use a Boost SIM card , same as my phone, but might have an Optus sim for those times where Telstra is low, as most mining camps use Optus

If you have an old phone you can put a sim in it. Then use it as a hotspot.

We thether to our phones, but it would be easier to have wifi like we do at home with multiple devices

That's what I use (Telstra 4gx modem which is actually a Huawei E5787) and it gets coverage when my phone cant or struggles to connect to 4g wireless -on the same carrier.

Cost me $120 outright and I paid a small fee externally to have it unlocked. I wasn't going to be extorted by Telstra for that.

IIRC, it can accept up to 10 connections and has external antenna ports should you wish to use that. At the end of the day, any wireless router will be limited by signal strength of and/or carrier. I believe it does both 2.4 and 5Ghz wifi. I'm very happy with it to be honest.

I'm pretty sure I found a dodgy brother on ebay....lol. Will edit post when I find that detail. For some reason I cant log into ebay atm.

Bear in mind these portable dongles prob dont have the same transmission power as the fixed units as listed in the thread above, but it works for me. That said, I don't live in a van either.

Edit: I used this guy. cost me $13 to unlock. The code worked ok first time.

You can buy unlocked routers that will support up to 150bkps 4-10 users at any computer speciality store. They charge off any cigarette lighter USB style phone charger. It will be small enough to be handbag portable so you can hotspot in a park or cafe if you are travelling whilst you work. Expect to pay $80-150.

I am with the big T. But it all depends where you are. As much as I hate them, optus has lifted their game over the last decade and has coverage in quite a few remote places where Telstra has none. Not that she ever travels with me these days, but the other half isnt on Telstra. I just unlocked it to give me options, should I ever need it. $12 wasn't a big spend at the end of the day.

You wont get 5g with that dongle either, no matter what sim is inserted.

We use a combination of 5G and 4G Telstra modems. They all plug into a USB port and I just use the Jaycar 3-way 12V adaptor with 4 USB ports to power them.
