Gday buddy.
we had ours for a number of years and loved it. Until our little girl grew up and started to kick the wife and I out of the tent. Then we upgraded to a camper. We both still prefer the rooftop tent when its only us out touring.

The thing that turns me off them is every time you want to go anywhere in the car you have to pack the tent up. Sounds like a pain in the bum to me.

We used an "Ausie Traveller" for years before the kids come along and loved it. Afterwards we towed a trailer with all the long term camping gear including the Targematent and still used the rooftop camper for the quick over night stays. I think no matter the type of camping whether it be swag, tent, rooftop or campertrailer therwill always be pro's and cons for them all. It would be wonderful to have the coin to have both the rooftop AND the camper, now THAT would be a beaut combination.

I actually just fitted a foxwing to my Rig, am now contemplating buying a 30 second tent. They zip onto the foxwing. Figure that this combination might be the go for and of the desert treks. Think the KK will be a little too heavy to pull over Big Red. Be nice to try tho.

Do you want me to gently tug it over?? I'll put a hitch on the back of my trailer and just piggy back them!!

All the above is true, we love the conveniance of being able to camp any where along the trail or beach, and no unwanted criters viseting in the night...But dont get one of those cheep ones made of nilon.

We have just bought a rooftop tent from Austrack Campers, and such wonderful people to deal with too.

It looks like it is good quality, and also has a full annexe.

Haven't had a chance to use it yet, but hopefully will this weekend. I'll let you know what I think, or more to the point what 'she who cooks the tea' thinks.

We also have a camper trailer, but we wanted something for the desert crossings where we usually tent it with swags, but feel that our older bodies are not getting off the ground like they used to.

I like the idea of a RoofTop tent and I am looking at getting one.
The wife on the other hand hates the idea because she is one of these people who gets 60 times a night to goto the loo..

I have had my Roof top tent for about 10 years (Howling moon, from South Africa) for touring you cant beat it, but when you are stationed in one place and doing a lot of driving from a base camp, packing it up every morning is a bit of a drag, even though it only takes 5 min. we have a ground tent now as well.

Theres a bloke down here in Gippsland that makes them, Dingo Doza they are called. Aussie made canvas too, 8oz. He can custom make any size you want. If we decide to get a rooftop it will definately be one of his!! Roof Top Tents by Dingo Doza Folda Tent for Camping and 4WD

The good thing about it is if something were to go wrong (i'm sure it wouldn't) then he is pretty much just down the road and can take a look or do warranty jobs that much quicker. No sending it off to china...

Or you could buy a camper trailer. I know this bloke.....:eek::D
