We have a Dual cab D22 Navara & have been contemplating on getting a Roof Top Tent, as we don't have a Camper Trailer & at this stage we can't have one as we live in a Unit & nowhere to park it..

All the photo's we have seen are on roofs of Cruisers & Patrols etc.& are length ways over the whole roof of the vehicle. We saw the photo of the Lux with one over the tray, & by the way it looks good, but we are wanting to put it on the Roof Racks as we have the Heavy Duty Rhino Roof Rack system. Can anyone tell us if it is possible to install one on our roof, so that it folds out sideways. or do they only go on the roofs of Cruisers & Patrols etc.

All help & comments will be received in the way they are given & that is is with many Thanks & Great Appreciation.

Hi mal
Not to sure about on your roof racks, but i think if you get a bar for the rear of tub you could put it up there no problems.

Roof top Tent

OK guys

No camper trailer and we are selling the caravan ;)

Now looking at a roof top tent, who has one and please give me the good and bad makes and points of these. before we spend more money.

We are happy to swag it with a 30sec Oz tent, but Jo thought roof top could be good

What are your thoughts ??????

I have had my roof top tent for a couple of years now and think there a great addition to have , they do have there good point and not so good ,if you get one make sure you get double stitched ,rip stop ,interior light set up,and a light for useing the ladder at night, set it up if your not planning to go any where for the rest of the day and make sure the zips are good ,I got mine from ebay around $900 it came with the awning and enclosed room , I don't see much sence in spending a fortune on 1 there all much the same . Heres where I got mine from Arco Roof Tent 0403584872

Yeah mate it folds out sideways....your could put it up there no probs it has alloy bars underneath mine that attack to the rack on my truck acrossways, but have the holes there for to attach it too roofracks so you get the choice...

got the same one from arco as above and it is a great tent, fully meshed and awning over steps for when it is raining and even a room if you want to put it up. I also say side awning from them for $170 from memory but the boss wouldn't le me..lol

i have mine going out backwards from the canopy of the ute so we can seet up the kitchen inthe back of the ute and still be outta sun and rain...

Just make sure the racks you put it on are rated to the weight you want to put up there and remember most RTT's weigh around the 50-60kg's.

Wish i had of done it years ago!

After looking for months and comparing products i settled on an Austrack.
Picked it up from pete in innisfail (Distributor) and it is awesome.
Cannot recomend them high enough for his service and price. Paid $1140 if i remember correctly and when i asked how much to install it he replied "if you give me a lift to get in position, i will bolt it up at no cost!"
Quallity rip stop canvas, midge proof screens (any we test that every trip we go on), very surprised how comfy the mattress is and a quallity weather cover that keeps the dust and water out.

ahhh cant wait to get it out this week and explore!

my tent

The only negative that I have is that I get 50km less out of a tank of fuel with it on.

Hi Guys, job completed, Jo will have to watch out for low branches and overhanging trees now.

Lucky its only on the 33s :rolleyes::D couple of pics, new awning fitted as well, as had to remove the old one from the left side and fit the new Oztop Awning on right, as the pics will show the cover over the ladder on LH side only :eek:
I am very interested in your Roof top Pod , you say you are the distributor , I have a 2002 Discovery ,would it be easy to fit ???? With appropriate Racks , are they reasonably heavy duty,,, And approx Price. Cheers

Yes the best I have ever used is the Clam by these guys
Austrack Hard Shell Roof Top Tent "The Clam" - In-Car - UHF Radios - Communication & Navigation
I have had a few and this is amazing. These guys gave me free delivery to my door as well. I have used them a few times.

I would defo go hard top!!! Although they do have a soft top as well if just takes longer to set up.

Sorry the company is called Bush Junkie | Bush Junkies do it on all 4's

Thats a good price compared to another company selling that style...

im looking at getting a roof top tent but the sticking point for us is im 6'4 my gf is 6'3 we weigh almost 200kgs between us plus knowing her she would want the 2 dogs up there with us so chuck on another 50kgs... I was thinking of putting 5 crossbars for strength but 1 would we fit and 2 would the patrol roof be able to take the weight?

cheers.

I just got a Howling Moon Stargazer 1.4, with nylon annexe.

All it can say is it is bloody brilliant! The quality of manufacture seems superb (so far!) but it is yet to be tested in anger!

Only got it on Thursday but have it 'up' in the drive at the moment to have a play and see what fits where, etc.

We bought it for a 4-6 month trip around Australia, plus other shorter trips around the UK /European mainland. So we needed it to be very durable and comfortable. It cost A LOT of money (GBP£2200), but for what we need we think it was worth spending the extra, rather than going for one of the cheaper ones.

This is a pic taken at the UK importers, just after we got it fitted. The Toyota in the background just had one fitted that day - the 2.4 - it is HUGE - you could have a big party in there! :D
