Replacement Turbo

Hi all,
original turbo has given up the ghost so looking to replace. Not really interested in reco one as they are very pricey. Don't really want more power as that puts pressure on other parts. Hard to trust a wrecker one so wondering if anyone has tried different. Ive been told to go cheapo from eBay as it will do the same thing. 2007 D40 4x4 auto 2.5.
Thanks
Dane

If you don't have scoring on the housing look for a replacement chra.

Used turbo only need a little dirt in the bearings and they're stuffed, Chinese turbos I hear are better than a decade ago but I'd not run one.

I just had a look on Ebay as you no doubt have. I usually take notice of the feedback that others have left when I am buying this sort of item. The one's around the $300 mark look like they might be a bit hit and miss in the quality department. The $600 one's look to be the go. It looks as though the purchasers are pretty happy with them.
I'd do a bit more feedback research if I were you.
It doesn't matter what you are buying the old saying of "You get what you pay for!" is generally true.

yeah / be careful with the ebay stuff / my mechanic used an ebay timing chain on my d22 and it did not end well

As far as buying stuff off Ebay goes it's very much a case of "Buyer Beware". I usually try to buy genuine or a well known brand regardless of what I'm after. You have to shop around. Many times I've found that the price on Ebay was actually more than the dealer was charging for the same thing.
But, hey I've saved heaps on all sorts of items.
It pays to check out the reviews of the items you're looking at before buying. It can be a good indication of whether or not you're about to buy a headache.

If in doubt pay full price. But don't complain about it later!

In the end i went with https://demonproparts.com.au/collections/nissan-navara-d40-turbo-charger for $700 so took the gamble not to go back to OEM, but not the cheapest i could find. Time will tell. I have had it on for 2 weeks and it hasnt missed a beat and the same or minimal performance gain which is all i was after.

Whether this was related or not is hard to prove however the vacuum hose that runs from boost solenoid around back of engine melted in one spot and lost power mid drive. This was a very easy cheap fix and did it on the side of the road, but i can't put it down to either the Turbo puts out a lot more heat in that area now or the hose was not clipped back in properly and was resting on something it shouldn't have. So now i have made the hose just a little longer and go along firewall rather than designated clips and it hasn't happened since.
