If you live in SA and you have or know someone who has a vehicle which may have a faulty Takata airbag you need to see this ......

To check your vehicle try here https://ismyairbagsafe.com.au/

I don’t know how they can impose this when there is a worldwide shortage of replacements. I suppose it is only a matter of time before other states follow.

I know before my wife’s little Honda Jazz was written off ( thankfully the airbag didn’t need to deploy) we had letters and each time we contacted a dealer (both in NSW and Qld) the response was the same “we don’t have any, we’ll put you on the waiting list”.
How long do people have to wait to ensure their safety. This is has to be the biggest worldwide **** up in motor vehicle history.

I think it is a litigation issue. Knowingly allowing you to register a vehicle which is not roadworthy.

Actually, I think it's the nanny state - this is the first time I have ever heard of registration being withheld for not complying with a recall - and there's been some pretty scary recalls in the past, involving vehicles doing all sorts of things including catching on fire.
I've had the recall done - but at the end of the day you needed to have a faulty airbag AND be involved in a significant collision for the defect to come into play - those are pretty small likelihoods. Whereas there have been recalls for vehicles that could catch on fire without warning which was a higher likelihood which haven't been subject to this regulation.

Yes, but the number of vehicles effected was significantly different.

It doesn't matter - a dangerous defect is a dangerous defect regardless of whether it's just one model of one vehicle or if it affects more than one model or brand.
Why are the 600 or so remaining vehicles in SA such a major problem compared to the thousands that have been affected by previous recalls. They need to be consistent - if it's a safety defect withhold registration on all affected vehicles or none - don't chop and change simply because the government wants to be seen "doing something".

Yes, I agree, withhold registration on ALL vehicles with a recall notice until the defect has been rectified.

What are the defects?

When driven over long grass affected vehicles may accumulate vegetation under the vehicle near the exhaust system.

What are the hazards?
The exhaust system in that area may reach a high temperature. If sufficient grass or other combustible material has accumulated, they may be ignited by the exhaust system, causing smoke or flames to appear from under the vehicle.

What should consumers do?
Ford will write to owners of all affected vehicles.

Until parts are available, owners should refer to the warnings in the Owner Manual, paying special attention to the sections:
- Starting and Stopping the Engine - General Information
- Starting and Stopping the Engine - Diesel particulate Filter
- Fuel and Refueling - Catalytic Converter

For further information, an owner can contact any authorised Ford Dealer or Ford's Customer Relationship centre on 1800 503 672.

I'm an RFS volunteer and know that several Highway Patrol vehicles have started a fire by sitting in long grass while trying to be sneaky.
